Jessica Chastain Gives Beautiful Speech on Diversity in Movies

Jessica Chastain hits the stage to accept the Critics’ Choice MVP Award at the 2015 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held at the Hollywood Palladium on Thursday evening (January 15) in Los Angeles.

The two-time Oscar-nominated actress received the award giving stellar performances in four films this year: A Most Violent Year, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Interstellar, and Miss Julie.

Jessica decided to use her speech to speak up for diversity in film and it was a beautiful and inspiring moment.

“Today is Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday so it got me thinking about our need to build the strength of diversity in our industry and to stand together against homophobic, sexiest, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, and racist agendas,” Jessica said. “I’m and optimist and I can’t help but feeling hopeful about the future of film, especially looking at all these beautiful people in this room. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, ‘Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter’ and I would like to encourage everyone in this room to please speak up.”

Wow, she’s put on some weight. She doesn’t look bad at all, it’s just a bit surprising. Seems really sudden.

    Beautiful, Elegant and Classy!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVvFTKa62Ts

  • mandyz

No, she actually has curves. If you saw her in ‘The Help’, she was definitely busty in her ditzy blonde role. I think she plays down on her curves but she’s actually always had it.

  • lshelton22

She made a fool of herself with that speech.

  • solargeknowles

    how?

  • Gabrielle

Perfect speech! Love her and I love that she had the confidence to say that in front of that audience.

  • Anastatia Bagans

Oh shut up with that political correct speech. I don’t see anyone speaking about adversity at the BET awards.

  • poblagger

Complaining about the lack of diversity in film is like accusing Broadway of homophobia. Diversity for diversity’s sake is the killer of talent.

  • Guest

Yeah like you watch BET. You just shut up!

  • Mel

Yeah, like you really watch BET. You just shut up!

  • Mel

And you made a fool of yourself with this ignorant comment, fool.

  • lshelton22

AND I made a fool of myself? So you AGREE that she made a fool of herself? lol, you are so dumb.

  • kate

Good for her for having the courage to say something. There’s a real lack of films being made about minorities, women, or outsiders. Time for a change. Brave lady to say so, too.

  • Anastatia Bagans

Good job dodging my point to make a completely useless and irrelevant comment lmao. Truth hurts.
