Who Is Chris Kyle? Meet the 'American Sniper' Played By Bradley Cooper

American Sniper is being released this weekend with Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper playing the real life Chris Kyle, a United States Navy SEAL who was tragically killed two years ago.

Chris, who was 38 at the time of his death, served as a Navy SEAL from 1999 to 2009, with four tours served in the latest Iraq war. Chris is known as the most successful sniper in American military history, with 160 confirmed kills and 255 claimed kills. Chris also received many military honors including the Bronze and Silver Star.

During his time in Iraq, Chris‘ wife Taya Kyle gave birth to their son. Chris made the decision to leave the SEALS and was honorably discharged in 2009.

On February 2, 2013, Chris and a friend Chad Littlefield were both shot at Rough Creek Ranch-Lodge-Resort in Texas by Marine Corps veteran Eddie Ray Routh. Chris and Chad were attempting to help him cope with PTSD at the time.

American Sniper, also starring Sienna Miller, hits theaters nationwide tomorrow.

A typical propaganda. I mean, loved Eastwood’s efford and the film looked OK, yes, but Cooper was so not Oscar-worthy. Even a blind person would say that. No freaking way Bradley Cooper was better than Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest hotel or Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler, or Timothy Spall in Mr. Turner, etc., etc. Once again, the Academy goes for the mediocre performance. What a shame. And the worst thing is that hes nominated undeservedly. Again, like he did last year with American Hustle. Also, do your research on the person Cooper played in American Sniper and then do the talking.

Chris Kyle is also a world champion liar. Said he killed dozens of people during Katrina.

Such a good movie, I enjoyed it surprisingly not going to lie it was boring in some parts, b/c I didn’t understand it, but in and entertainment point of view is was and 6/10.

There is a preponderance of admiration of Bradley’s work from the film community and critics, and of course, fans. I am no expert so I won’t base this on my opinion, but evidently BC is an outstanding actor. Weigh the evidence. Meanwhile haters hate and do no service to anyone.

Preponderance of people and movie critics saying Fiennes, Gyllenhaal and Oyelowo were more deserving. Posters said the non JJ threads with movie critics are saying Bradley’s performance is average when compared to the other Best Actor nominees and that his studio, his famous friends, and he was campaigning to get the oscar nom. He did not deserve it the way Aniston did not deserve hers. Aniston can take Bradley to dinner and he will tell her how he bought Oscar noms for AMerican Hustle and American Sniper.

The scary thing is the unworthy Bradley might win this time. Birdman is a comedy. Voters might go for the AS drama. BC can teach a class on faking it and manipulating everyone to get awards.

I feel for the more deserving actors this year that got snubbed so this guy could be nominated AGAIN. I can’t see him winning but he shouldn’t even be there.

I like to keep my two worlds separate…this posting on Just Jared and the people who I’ve known all my life like on facebook. Do you know how many people that I know personally went to see American Sniper and loved it?
Many many many people. :) Gotta good movie there, Brad.

  • Missy

It was a good movie. Bradley’s performance was excellent. I was prepared to be thoroughly objective and as it turns out, he was more believable than I expected.

  • Missy

I take back my up vote. Just missed the tap. BC Gave an outstanding performance as evidently thousands of others thought. As did Sienna Miller. Way better than wonderful Fiennes. The Academy knows and understands “deserving”. Chris Kyle lived and died so you are free to state your opinion. I know some Seals and better men than most. Real heros.

  • Constance

He should just breathe, smile, thank the Academy, his mom, and Chris Kyle. :) LOL
He didn’t fake it. I wouldn’t have supported a fake.

  • Bradllifer

    I agree!!!

  • Bradllifer

It will be Eddie, Keaton or cumberbach that will win not
Bradley every site says that. And boyhood will win for best movie.
