Johnny Depp Slams Actors Who Pursue Music Careers: It's 'Sickening'

Johnny Depp doesn’t like it when actors use their fame to pursue music careers!

“That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it’s always just made me sick,” the 51-year-old actor said to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“I’ve been very lucky to play on friends’ records and it’s still going,” Johnny said. Johnny is a guitarist and has often been seen playing on stage with pals Oasis, Iggy Pop, Marilyn Manson, and more. He also just finished the movie musical Into the Woods, which featured him singing.

“Music is still part of my life… But you won’t be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won’t ever exist. The kind of luxury now is, anybody with a certain amount of of success, if you have a kind of musical being, you can go out and start a band and capitalize on your work in other areas,” Johnny added.

“But I hate the idea, ‘Come see me play the guitar because you’ve seen me in 12 movies.’ It shouldn’t be [that way]. You want the people who are listening to the music to only be interested in the music,” he concluded.

Shh Johnny. Sort yourself out. I can’t deal with falling out of crush with someone I’ve crushed on since the early 90′s

  • lovenhanced

Didn’t he sing in Sweeny Todd???

  • Michele V

Says the biggest sell out in Hollywood.

  • jady

I think he was talking about himself not about other “actors” in the original story…way to create a polemic fron nothing!

  • moonbeams62

So WTF is he talking about? Because you know he has someone in mind. I hate that he is judging other people. If a person wants to explore their artistic nature by doing more than one thing they should. Does Johnny Depp have any idea how “sickening” he is becoming to most of his former fans? I adored him for so many years, and now I feel embarrassed for him. I saw him on some recent interview and he was talking so slow, you would think he had a stroke or something. I think he drinks and drugs so much hanging out with Keith Richards that his brain is fried.

  • Jedaqia

True. He was just referring to himself. This post is highly misleading.

  • Willy Billy

He is talking about actors who release music and not actors who sing in MOVIES. Did you not even try to understand what he is saying?

  • Willy Billy

No YOU sort yourself out if you think there’s anything wrong with what he’s saying.

  • Willy Billy

How is he the biggest sell out in Hollywood when he only does the things that he wants to do? He is the realest actor in Hollywood.

  • Willy Billy

I feel embarrassed for YOU! You are beyond ignorant if you don’t know “WTF” he is talking about. He is right. He means actors who take advantage of their fame to make more cash. His “former” fans? You were never a real a fan and all of his REAL fans do not find him sickening because they GET him. What’s sickening is people like you.

He was talking slow like he always does during some interview? THE HORROR!

  • Willy Billy

    Agreed.

  • Guest

Realest? Dude, he’s a sellout. Johnny Depp says one thing but does another. Some idiots even have the nerve to compare him to Marlon Brando.

  • Willy Billy

Yes he is. He always tells it like it is. And when did he ever say one thing but did another? And yeah he is the Marlon Brando of this generation.

  • Guest

    LMAO!!!
He is not Marlon Brando and NEVER will be.
Brando was a superb actor who did not need to hide behind a stupid clown costume to deliver a performance.

Brando spoke the TRUTH and LIVED his truth.

He was involved in many charities and put his career in danger by being one of the first white actors to publicly support Civil Rights of the 60′s.

Brando never sold a phony image just to make more money like Depp did.

Marlon Brando was a man of his word.
Johnny Depp is not and stands for nothing outside of being an overpaid, average actor.

He is the complete opposite of what the incomparable Marlon Brando stood for and was about.

  • Scarlett

I never said it had anything to do with what he was saying

  • Willy Billy

That’s all very funny because his friend and costar, Brando saw a great deal of himself in Johnny.

Johnny never sold a “phony” image to anyone.

Johnny Depp is a man of his word and he stands for many thing outside of being a legendary, hugely accomplished actor but you obviously know nothing about him.

Brando was best friends with Depp for a reason.

  • Iarrthóir Fírinne

I though he was trying to be funny.

  • suzybel

Isn’t he doing the exact same thing he’s b*tching about? And he appears to be getting weirder by the day.

  • Michele V

Yeah, so real. What an ironic word to choose. He always plays clowns like in Mortdecai which one critic wrote in his review: “Mort de cinema.”

  • Milla

Couldn’t agree with you more. The dudes been phoning it in for the “stupid money” for years. Such a shame because he used to be SO good. And you cant tell me that the band “P” was not capitalizing on the fame of its members.

  • kelly

I completely agree with him. Just because they’re in the same field of work doesn’t mean you can sing as well – they’re very different jobs (and vice versa: singers who become actors). I wouldn’t trust my Chiropractor to yank out my teeth. They’re both doctors but their jobs couldn’t be more different.

  • MDMA

    He didn’t slam anyone imo.
What he really said was probably that he didn’t want to take advantage of his fame to form his own rock band. He’s doing collaborations with other artists instead as far as I know.
Unfortunately that wouldn’t make a scandal story.
Give the man a break-he’s ok.

  • MDMA

So what-it has been favourably reviewed in Europe.Who cares if US critics don’t get his humour?
That is exactly why the world premiere was in Berlin and not in Los Angeles. Have you seen the movie or do you just repeat what some newspaper dude made up?

  • Michele V

Actually, the quote I used was from a European critic from The Telegraph.

  • jesus5150

    Oh yes, the “reaslest”!!!
    Lol!
    Idiot.

  • jesus5150

    He’s the ‘realest’!!!!

  • rikiki

Why an actor who can sing well would does not sing, or a singer who can act well would not act ! No problem about that if sincerity only !
