'Water for Elephants' Will Become a Broadway Musical!

Water for Elephants, the popular book turned into a movie, will now become a big Broadway musical!

The story follows “aspiring veterinarian Jacob Jankowski as he joins the staff of Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, working with the circus’ new elephant. He bonds with the show’s equestrian star, who is married to its charismatic but troubled animal superintendent.”

The movie version released in 2011 featured Robert Pattinson as Jacob and Reese Witherspoon as the equestrian star Marlena.

“I have loved Sara Gruen‘s Water for Elephants since it was first published and was captivated by its theatricality,” producer Peter Schneider said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “It is so dramatic — a woman who is trapped in a relationship for all the wrong reasons meets and falls in love with a man for all the right reasons. Throw in an elephant as a matchmaker and you have the potential for a show of great imagination and emotional depth.”

Loved the book & movie. Can have fun with the circus theme on stage.

I loved the book but boycotted the movie as it did to the real, living elephant exactly what the book wrote about. Tai is abused with beatings with the bull hooks & chains to contain her to do the tricks needed. Any performing elephant is a severely abused one. I hope that common sense & decency will prevail & no living elephant will be used for the musical. It would be so dangerous to everyone besides being so very cruel & outdated. Please learn the truth about the abusive treatment to performing elephants & the others & stop supporting shows with performing wild animals.
