Alexander Skarsgard Reveals How He Picks his Movie Roles

Alexander Skarsgard walks back to his car after running some errands on Wednesday (January 28) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 38-year-old actor just hit up the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, where he talked about how he picks his movie and television roles.

“I really don’t have a plan or a strategy. When I read a script, it’s very basic. It’s all about do I connect or not? Is this something I’m creatively excited about? The combination of the script and meeting the filmmaker – you’re either excited or you’re not. I can’t say what I’m going to be excited about, or a specific genre, or a specific type of director, or a specific role. I have a tendency to be more inspired and more excited if it’s something that I feel like I haven’t done, you know?” Alex told Refinery29.

“When I was on True Blood, every hiatus, I did actively search for roles that were different,” Alex continued. “Not because I felt that I needed to show people that I could play someone other than Eric Northman, but because I creatively wasn’t interested in – after shooting the show for seven months – going straight from that to playing a character that was exactly the same.”

    awwww…hiis….CAR! :D
I thought he is a Hammer type or something, wondering how his legs are suitable for this little car.

  • Caryn Carrington

He seems much more solid and real than most of the fake type actors and reality stars. Wears his clothes more than once. Actually has a brain in his head. Is polite and respectful to fans and coworkers.

Damn that man is fine! It’s so good to see him out and about again. He looks amazing! Even when he’s walking around with a hole in his shirt. He’s hulking out again, eh? *stares* Nah, just ventilation for his abs. Jesus, those arms…

He makes me laugh when he tries to sound like a serious thespian. This is the guy who did TRUE BLOOD for 8 years, for God’s sake.

  • The Last Word

I think he’s sincere about trying different roles. I don’t always think he’s been in good movies but he’s trying to be versatile.

  • The Last Word

Ironic that he has about 3 different outfits but drives a flashy Porsche.

I hate his car but I like him.

He’s said multiple times that True Blood for him was “f-ck you money.” Not that he didn’t take the show seriously but it helped him get his foot in the door and he enjoyed the people he worked with.

  • The Last Word

So when is his next project being announced? I hope he doesn’t think he can wait until after Tarzan is released.

  • The Last Word

Yes True Blood offered a steady paycheck instead of depending on his Dad.

    Haha that’s funny

Ugh, he was just spotted with Alexa Chung.. I start to dislike him more and more, he only dates talentless and dumb women.. Kbos and Alexa? Come on.. Used to be a fan, but he looks like a total superficial dude lately.
