Jeep Super Bowl Commercial 2015: 'This Land is Your Land'

One of the commercials that caught our attention during the 2015 Super Bowl was definitely the Jeep Renegade one.

The commercial was set to the tune of “This Land Is Your Land” as performed by Marc Scibilia.

“From the streets of New York City to the outback of Australia, follow the Jeep Renegade as we explore the globe in our 2015 Super Bowl ad. The world is a gift. Play responsibly,” the video’s caption reads.

Jeep has had some memorable commercials in the past, including one that had a voiceover from Oprah Winfrey!

Jeep commercial= FAIL. I am insulted by the
bastardization of the American patriotic song, intended to unite and
celebrate the ownership of our land as citizens of the USA. This was disgraceful. Amongst the uniquely patriotic Superbowl context, these were the wrong scenes to be shown with this song. Don’t try and erase our Nation while playing that song. It sends the wrong message. You should have written a new song to celebrate the cultures of Earth. Shame on you.

  • Ed

I am sorry, but you don’t know anything about the song. It is a somber, bitter song that was written in reaction to Irvin Berlin’s song “God Bless America.” The only reference to the US is “California” and “New York.” How does that make it patriotic? The original song, before edits, even questions if the land is really “for you and me.”

  • Jeff

Sorry Ed, but it is YOU that does not know the song.
This land is your land This land is my land

    From California to the New York island;

From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters

This land was made for you and Me.

The land is described in the first verse, not just mentioned. The commercial was most inappropriate for the song that is an American folk song about America. It is gross misuse of an an American institution.

Someone call the WAAAAAAmulance. Boo hoo. Sniff sniff.

NO, it was pretty awesome. Earth > USA

  • Level

I agree- the Earth is greater than the USA-but the song is inappropriate for the commercial. Get it? The commercial was about the world- the song is about the USA- doesn’t go…get it?? Other countries might even be offended- we’re saying that their country is ours–not fitting. Get it? Your response was childish. Stop trolling and get back to your homework.

  • Kelton Jetersen

… And your comment was “mature”?

The song, in case you didn’t watch the movie, is now about the world. The lyrics have been adjusted so it doesn’t just fit the US. Get it? It’s not just an American song any longer- clearly. Music, art, literature– they all change as time moves forward. Get it? America as a nation is becoming less and less of a deal as international borders become less significant. Get it?
