Nationwide Super Bowl Commercial 2015: Childhood Deaths

This commercial took a morbid turn that we did not expect at all – Nationwide Insurance went for the shock value with its ad during the 2015 Super Bowl.

The clip featured a young buy listing off all the things he’ll never have the chance to do – including learning to ride a bike, travel the world, get married and more – all because he died.

The commercial then cuts to a bathtub overflowing with water.

“The #1 cause of childhood deaths is preventable accidents. At Nationwide, we believe in protecting what matters most, your kids. Together we can #MakeSafeHappen,” the video’s caption reads.

I did not find that commercial effective at all. I’m not a fan of the commercials that go too far in trying to be shocking.

Nor did I. If all or most parents would be really responsible, such things wouldnt happen.

Unfortunately my son drowned in bean dip while I was watching the Nationwide commercial. If only it had aired sooner, or maybe a pre-game tweet.

    JK…It was a good ad.

It’s still not going to convince me to use Nationwide though. I don’t have kids, my health insurance is $85/month through Obamacare, car insurance is $25/month through Insurance Panda, and homeowners $40/month thru Progressive. I’m already getting steals.

No need for the Nationwide (even though they did tear at my heartstrings a bit).
