Really looking forward to this! Pitt and Zemeckis!

That’ll be interesting…..I’m liking romances where the couple aren’t so YOUNG/silly (I guess more of a dramatic romantic film, aimed at “older” people i.e. not my age) lately…..and I love WWII. So much drama and intrigue.

Sounds another interesting project, Brad will be very busy as apparently it will begin production in the fall.

UPDATE: Sources say the Brad Pitt movie is set during WWII…

Brad Pitt And Robert Zemeckis Team To Make Epic Penned By Steve Knight

Here’s a nice way to take the stink off the fact your name is on what is already being called one of the worst movies of the year. Steve Knight (“Eastern Promises,” “Locke”), who has the misfortune of being involved with “Seventh Son,” is going into the weekend with a smile on his face. Brad Pitt and Robert Zemeckis are going to make one of his scripts.

Zemeckis will direct Pitt in an untitled movie, about which details aren’t being shared at the moment except that it’s an epic love thriller. We’d wager it’s probably the WWII romantic thriller Pitt was attached to last spring, which at the time was angling for a “big director” to get lined up. Zemeckis fits that bill pretty nicely.

As for Knight, it’s yet another gig with Pitt who clearly has taken a shine to him, with the screenwriter also penning the sequel to “World War Z.” Not much in the way of details on that either, though Knight did recently tell Thompson On Hollywood, “It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate.”

That film stats lensing in the fall, and it’s not clear where this film will fit in everyone’s schedule. Zemeckis is also in post on “The Walk” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt which will open in the fall. [The Wrap]

  • valis202

Wow. The amount of work that Brad is lining up is quite exceptional.

  • VirgiliaCoriolanus

“Seventh Son” looks SO godawful. I don’t understand the who/what/why of how they got Julianne Moore AND Jeff Bridges (both of them MUST have wanted to buy a summer home or SOMETHING)…..but jeesh. I would say this movie might hurt Julianne’s chances, but I don’t think it’ll come out before the Oscars. Might be wrong.

  • VirgiliaCoriolanus

I think it’s also depending on Angelina’s directing/producing career. He seemed to dial back late last year, so maybe Angelina’s going to take a break after “By The Sea” comes out, giving him time to film his own projects.

I hope “By The Sea” is as interesting as was described. I don’t imagine it a film made to make money, but if she doesn’t do well, this sort of thing can make or break her directing career. It’s not just her directing. She wrote it. She produced it. She directed it. And she acted in it. All the choices are hers; hers to defend, hers to make. I really enjoyed her first two movies (ITLOBAH was SO hard to watch), so I’m excited about her 3rd.

I also hope she goes into directing more female oriented films when she’s got both feet firmly planted into the door of directing.

Richard Leakey Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt in Hong Kong news

    Elephant guards trumpet Jolie pic

    Kevin Cheng
    Friday, February 06, 2015

Renowned environmentalist Richard Leakey hopes a Hollywood blockbuster will educate the world especially mainlanders about the threat of extinction facing elephants due to the huge demand for ivory in China and Hong Kong.

The film will be directed by Angelina Jolie and star Brad Pitt as Leakey.

Speaking to The Standard during a four-day visit to the SAR as part of the Royal Geographical Society Hong Kong’s 20th anniversary celebrations, Leakey said greater education in East Asia is needed to help curb the trade.

“Thirty years later, hundreds of millions of consumers emerged out of a rapidly growing Chinese economy and ivory is very attractive, as it was in Japan 35 years ago,” he said.

“The Chinese consumer now is hungry to buy ivory, they have absolutely no information about what the trade implies for the survival of the species.

“I thought maybe we should try develop a project where a blockbuster movie could be made about elephants and their protection, and have the movie be seen in this part of the world.

“In this part of the world, superstars [such as Jolie and Pitt] still attract enormous interest. I believe this can change the attitudes of tens of millions of people.”

Leakey confirmed Pitt will star in the film, called Africa, which will begin filming later this year.

After beginning his career as a paleontologist, Leakey was the first head of Kenya’s Wildlife Conservation and Management Department, founded to combat illegal poaching.

There are about 400 local licensed ivory traders who can sell about 117 tonnes of ivory already on the market before the 1989 international ban.

The government holds about 17 tonnes of confiscated ivory that is being destroyed in batches at the chemical waste treatment center in Tsing Yi.

Leakey and WildlifeDirect chief executive Paula Kahumbu have met officials from the Airport Authority and lawmakers Elizabeth Quat Pui-fan and Kenneth Chan Ka-lok, who support a ban on the sale of ivory in Hong Kong.

The Royal Geographical Society Hong Kong has arranged for the pair to visit 11 schools and speak to more than 5,000 children about elephants.

  • Passing Through

LOL, Jared – it’s the World War Z sequel not World Ward II. If this is filming this fall – doesn’t sound like Africa will happen this summer unless Brad makes back-to-back movies and he hasn’t done that in a long time.

{TB EXCLUSIVE} Brad Pitt And Sandra Bullock To Star In “War Of The Roses” Style Divorce Comedy
    February 6, 2015 EXCLUSIVE
〉Pitt and Bullock will play husband and wife in the divorce comedy.

Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock are attached to star in the UNTITLED WAR OF THE ROSES PROJECT. The currently untitled War of the Roses style divorce comedy follows a couple who host a HSN/QVC show who trudge through their divorce on air. Pitt and Bullock will play the male and female lead, respectively.

The project is currently in development, and will be produced by Pitt and Dede Gardner for Plan B Entertainment. Brad Weston and Pam Abby will oversee for New Regency, while Sarah Esberg will oversee production. The A-list comedy is currently OWA.

Bullock is repped by CAA. Pitt is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Question – Are the hens now going to claim that Sandy was having dinner with Ticky to get Ticky’s permission to do the movie? Or that she wants to cast Ticky in the movie? Oy vey…

Like I said on the other thread – I can’t think of anything the Tracking Board has ever reported about Brad or Angie that’s turned out to be true, so…I’m throwing this story a 3 year-old Princess Zahara side eye…

  • Tweet Angie

I dont buy it either. And I doubt Plan B will produce something like that.

  • Passing Through

I think Brad is doing Africa. That could shoot in the late springearly summer and he could film the Zemeckis movie while Angie does editing. Richard Leakey doesn’t seem like the sort to name-drop Brad just for the publicity.

Also, maybe the Steven Knight has set the WWZ sequel during WWII, but I can’t see Brad doing another WWII era movie so soon after Fury.

  • Passing Through

    Phool -

You’re welcome. I’ve still got 1 or 2 more years to get through. I’ll try to do them this weekend but no guarantees because…well…I said it…I’m a lazy ass procrastinator and if something shiny and new, less fug and less fur on it’s chin and forehead comes along..I get distracted…

  • saint angie

Y ahora llorar a Jared para que me vuelva a prohibir….pummm

  • Phool

Which years have you still got to do?…
LOL, don’t buy the lazy ass comment for one minute , if this is what you can come up in your lazy state , then god know’s what you will drag out in the unlazy state lol, Ticky and Huvane better be quaking in their size 12′s.

  • plez

I’d rather see this than another WWII movie. BTW I was looking at the tracking board and the had information on this new WWII movie as early as April of 2014.

  • Phool

ITA, I somehow cant see him doing back to back War movies, even with Inglorious and Fury there were years apart. Odds are Africa is happening first.
Likewise, Leakey would not be making public comments on Brad if Brad we’re not attached to the project.

  • Tweet Angie

yeah I forgot what Leakey said. Well he could do the Zemekis movie and then Africa. Angie will start Africa after finishing BTS and she likes to take her time so I bet its in the fall but who knows.

  • toastie postie

    Eagerly awaiting. Excellent work!

  • Gold Dust Woman

For Phool: as promised here is my report on Julianne Moore and the screening plus Q+A I just attended.
But first, for PT here’s a report on your BFF Huvsy!
I am pretty sure the man in question was old Huvs. He walked in with her, then remained on the side keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. And he looked like the man in the pics I saw on the Internet. So, I’m confident I’ve got the right guy.
I’m going to be fair, in person he doesn’t look especially creepy. Nor is he tangerine coloured, which, for some reason I expected him to be.
In fact, he was disappointingly ordinary. Sorry, PT, I wish I could say I saw 666 on his head or a couple of horns sprouting out but, no, just an ordinary looking, tall man, expensively dressed.
When an audience member asked JM what colour dress she was going to wear when she WINS the Oscar, he smiled broadly and looked *gasp* normal!

‘Unbroken’ Sound Mixers Find Delicacy in a War Movie
The final film in our Ears on the Oscars series challenged its mixers to honor the truth of Louis Zamperini’s story

As a sound mixer and six-time Oscar nominee, Frank Montaño concedes he gets a little help in the recording booth: viewer’s imaginations.

“Some people don’t realize movies are a 50-50 marriage between visual and audio stimuli,” Montaño said. “The big difference is, with sound, you can close your eyes and still take your audience where you want: the jungle, the ocean, a place of solitude.”

Or, in Montaño’s latest Academy Award-nominated work, a B-24 Liberator bomber that’s the initial setting to “Unbroken,” the real life story of WWII hero, Olympic athlete and Christian inspirational speaker Louis Zamperini.

Also read: Jack O’Connell Gets Shot Down and Captured in Newest Trailer for Angelina Jolie’s ‘Unbroken’ (Video)

The film, nominated for best cinematography and sound editing, also earned sound mixing Oscar nods for re-recording mixers Montaño and Jon Taylor and production sound mixer David Lee, who worked in the Dolby Atmos system to convey the havoc of fierce battles, the solitude of the open ocean and the brutality of a prison camp. (Montaño and Taylor are also nominated for mixing “Birdman.”)

War has been done so often. How did you make “Unbroken” stand out?
MONTANO: Actually, there aren’t many air battle sequences out there that start a film. We’ve had war movies about World War II, especially the European theater. A lot of Vietnam films. But air battle sequences are actually very sparse.

So was it tough capturing authentic sounds?
We were lucky enough to have one of two B-24 Liberators that were not modified. So we recorded them and had that as a base. You augment and sweeten the sound to enhance it. But the battle sequences are really about reporting, capturing the nuances down the bullet casings that make the threat real.

Also read: ‘American Sniper’ Sound Team: Why Chris Kyle’s Gun Didn’t Have to Be the ‘Biggest and Baddest’

How do you prevent a war film from being sonically chaotic?
Ten out of ten stories are story driven, and from a mixing standpoint, the last thing you want is for someone to lean over to someone else and ask “What did that guy just say?” So you have to create that magic “sound pocket,” where the movie is sensitive to first-time viewers and doesn’t take them out of the film. Because once they’re out of the story, it can be hard to break back in.

And what audience did you have in mind on “Unbroken?”
If your demo is, say, 18-25, that usually means you change the pressure of the sound. It gets bigger and bolder for younger ears. I think ours is a little more dialogue heavy, but really, what you see in “Unbroken” is three films in terms of sound. We opened with an angelic score, when Louis is flying. Then it there’s the sonic transition to a squadron rumbling. Then that hands off to a more poetic sound as he’s in solitude. But the sound through whole journey — from crash to being on a raft for 23 days — has to mirror Louis’ life.

Is it tougher to make a movie when the subject is real life?
Our approach was to be transparent. The movie opens up with the line, “This is a true story.” Not “based on.” The film itself is a living legacy, so you want to be transparent and, hopefully, give it that timeless quality that Louis’ story has.

Also read: ‘Whiplash’ Sound Mixers on Making Music Fast & Cheap: ‘Fear Is a Great Motivator’

That’s seems like a lot of pressure to get it right.
As a whole piece, it is delicate. You want the sound to get to the root of the sequence. That’s the only way to make sure you’re supporting the larger story.

    Which is?
It dawned on me several weeks in that, while you’ve got the excitement of fighters and planes and gunners, we’re seeing Louis as a caretaker. He’s not not armed, not a gunner, not flying the planes. He’s tending to the wounded. He moves around in the plane, hangs out a cargo door, to try and take care of the entire crew. That caregiving is what makes Louis’ story so compelling. That’s what gave us a sense of inspiration.

  • wika

woah there”s so much speculations about what he’s shooting and when he’s doing them… I wonder which ones are the ones he’ll end up doing? If he’s doing back to back movies I can guess it’s because Angie will be using the time to edit her work. This will be a change for them… last time was like alternate acting time for them and now the dynamics are going to change if Angie is going to be directing more movies…

  • Phool

    Good Evening Gold Dust Woman

You are a STAR. Considering your busy work schedule and life ,you still made time to post *giving big warm hug to Gold*.

Please tell me Huvane’s “Ordinariness” hasn’t blinded you in his favor. You do know the 666 is still there, just hidden under the hair extensions.

  • Phool

Then theirs the Number 1 Oscar Snubbed One , who still is jobless LOL

  • Phool

Even if this is a rumor, its in bad taste , I hope to god its not true, cant stand Hen Sandy end off.

  • wika

LOL true. Funny that the has-beens are getting their movies lined up while The Snubbed One is stuck with no movies. What’s her excuse??? LOL

  • Gold Dust Woman

    Ok, Phool:
The film is very moving, sad and realistic. It’s not a great movie by any means but fine for what it is. It’s clearly the real ‘ tiny indie that could’. You can see the budget was minuscule but it was made with a lot of love. The investors will be dancing with this one, it’s going to make its money back and then some.
All the performances are strong. Kristen is good. Julianne first met her when she was 12 and said she is still the great girl she was then.
PT , I have to say, Julianne was full of praise for Alec Baldwin. She said she loves him, always wanted him for the film and has longed to work with him for years but couldn’t find the right project.
Julianne’s performance is not a showy, Oscar grabbing one. It’s more nuanced, sensitive and subtle than that. I can’t believe that twit Crone tried to argue that it is a ‘one note performance’ and Aniston showed more range. Rubbish. Maybe it’s Crone who has early dementia!

She walked into the cinema to THUNDEROUS applause and an ovation. This was not a paid for crowd at TIFF, this was a cine literate audience who knew their independent films.

Now, I know a poster said yesterday that JM is not nice in real life. That may be so. I can only comment on how she was tonight.
She was utterly charming. Utterly riveting when talking about her months of research for the role and the way she chose to play it. She laughed a lot. She was incredibly intelligent and articulate as well as friendly with the people who asked questions from the audience.

The interviewer introduced her by saying : you guys are the last people who will see her before she wins her Bafta on Sunday and the Oscar later this month.
I have little doubt she’s right. And well deserved too.

  • Gold Dust Woman

I’m sorry Phool. Huvsy and I are in love. He’s ‘turned’ for me and is now the man with whom I shall have my children. You’re all mean about him. He’s just a sweet, misunderstood little cherub!

Ps I need you to advise me 24/7. Seriously, I didn’t get there on time today. I was late and ended up right at the back from where I couldn’t get any photos. So different from the Fury press conference when I was super early and secured the best seat in the house.

  • Gold Dust Woman

Passing Through : your stalking blog. Flippin’ heck, girl! That was brilliant. You, madam, should be running a magazine empire.
    Excellent stuff. Thank you.

Ps, I’ve posted something for you about your buddy Huvsy below.

  • Phool

Whats her excuse , why being one dimensional Rachel Green and added incentive of being talent less of course, what else. You didn’t think there was a fool of an A-List director out there who’d hire Ticky and believe her aggressive campaign that she is the “go to girl for serious roles” now do you? They’d rather offer the job to a Kim Kardashan than hire Ticky.

  • Phool

Thank you Gold, as always beautifully detailed and to the point. JM is an intelligent women, nice of her to be supporting her fellow cast members, unlike you know who , who made the hole movie about her only and didn’t acknowledge the whole cast.
I guess it was refreshing not to hear an actress go ummm , ahhh, stutter, hair flick , eye role and not talk about hair, water, yoga and media hounding her to procreate.

Original ‘Birdman’ Ending Had Johnny Depp ‘Pirates’ Cameo
In other recent interviews, star Michael Keaton and director Alejandro González Iñárritu have hinted that during the production, the film’s climax was dramatically altered. Speaking with co-writer of the movie, Alexander Dinelaris explained toCollider how the movie was initially supposed to bring everything to a close. He reveals:

“So we had one other ending that was satirical. The other ending was that he shoots himself on the stage. The camera comes around to the audience and their standing ovation – all the way around, like Chivo [Emmanuel Lubezki] and Alejandro did the whole time – and the segue was back on to the stage and on the stage was like James Lipton or Charlie Rose and Michael [Keaton] was sitting across from him and he’s sort of reading the review. He’s saying, ‘Oh my God, you got this tremendous review’ and Michael is like, ‘Yeah.’”

It’s here that Johnny Depp’s big Pirates of The Caribbean cameo would have been revealed, which ties into the theme of the movie. As you may know, Michael Keatonis playing a riff on his time spent as Batman. Here, we see his character interacting with his big screen alter ego, a superhero known as Birdman. Depp would have been seen engaged in similar discussions with Capt. Jack Sparrow:

“The camera prowled like it did the whole film, went back stage through the halls we’ve seen the whole time and we’d get to the dressing room where literally Johnny Depp would be sitting looking in the mirror and putting on his Riggan Thomson wig and then the poster of Pirates of the Caribbean 5 would be in the back. In Jack Sparrow’s voice [it would say], ‘What the fuck are we doing here, mate?’ It was going to be the satire of the endless loop of that. We couldn’t get Johnny Depp or even the poster.”

  • wika

Maybe this is deliberate so the tick can’t stalk him as effectively. LOL
