Why Is Sam Smith's Darkchild Version Grammy Nominated?

One thing you might be wondering when Sam Smith‘s nominations are announced during the 2015 Grammy Awards tonight is… why is he nominated for the Darkchild version of “Stay With Me”?

The 22-year-old singer is nominated for six awards tonight and three of those nominations are for “Stay With Me (Darkchild Version)” – Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

The album cut of the song was originally released as Sam‘s first single, but when it was re-released on a global scale, the Darkchild remix is what got the majority of the radio play.

There aren’t many differences between the two versions. Only some of the musical arrangements throughout the song are a little different, including some backing singers, hand claps, and an organ instead of strings, according to
