Angelina Jolie's Dad Jon Voight Says She Deserved an Oscar 2015 Nomination

Jon Voight wants the world to know that he thinks his daughter Angelina Jolie should have been nominated for a best director Oscar for her film Unbroken.

“I wish she had [been nominated], because I think she deserved it,” the 76-year-old actor told reporters (via Vulture). “I think her direction is astounding, really astounding, and if she wasn’t my daughter, I’d still say, ‘I want to work for that one.’ She’s a great actor’s director — the pace of the film, the size of the film. Unbelievably difficult stuff that she accomplished.”

Those receiving nominations for Best Director this year include Alexandro G. Iñárritu for Birdman, Richard Linklater for Boyhood, Bennett Miller for Foxcatcher, Wes Anderson for The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Morten Tyldum for The Imitation Game.

i’m always unsure of his motives. Mainly because she is unsure of his motives.

  • bap

    I agree.

  • JPFamily

This time around, he is right.
Perhaps he fancies himself a role in “Africa”?
Regardless, Angelina has done a fantastic job, her and her alone getting Unbroken to the screen – 57 years in the making.

  • Fabian

He’s as delusional as she is. Jolie never had a chance at all. If Ava DuVernay didn’t receive a nomination for Selma, why are people surprised Jolie wasn’t nominated? Selma was the superior film and was shut out.

  • happy666

Who cares about the father? Now its Angie and she is beautiful

They keep on and on relentlessly attacking this woman, trying to bring her down with their disgusting antics.
Angie, you just keep being your amazing, inspiring and dedicated self.

Can everyone STOP saying this about Angelina Jolie please? FFS

    http://www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/reports/news/a33378/angelina-jolie-opens-war-centre
Angelina Jolie opens war centre to help protect women from sexual violence, people still just talk about her skinny legs
    COME ON YOU GUYS

Angelina Jolie has just done something AMAZING – yesterday, alongside Cabinet Minister William Hague (with whom she co-founded the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative in 2012) Jolie launched the openingof Britain’s first academic centre for women, peace and security.

Operating from the London School of Economics, the goal of the centre is to boost the global campaign for women’s rights and abolish the use of sexual violence as a weapon.

“If you were to ask me who I think this centre is for, I picture someone who is not in this room today,” Jolie said in The Guardian. “I think of a girl I met in Iraq three weeks ago. She is 13 years old, but instead of going to school, she sits on the floor in a makeshift tent.”

The girl was captured by Isis as a sex slave, and repeatedly raped, Jolie said. “Now she may never be able to complete her education, or get married or have a family, because in her society victims of rape are shunned, and considered shameful. To my mind, what we have begun today at LSE is for that Iraqi girl and others like her.”

    How awesome.

BUT you might not have realised that’s what she was doing yesterday, because there were a number of news outlets that vaguely glossed over this to instead focus entirely on how thin she looked.

We get it guys, Angelina Jolie is thin. Fine, it might not look particularly healthy, but are you *really* worried about her health, or just looking for another opportunity to attack a woman’s appearance? WHEN will people STOP talking about womens’ bodies/outfits/hair/makeup INSTEAD of their actions and achievements?!

Angelina Jolie’s weight is not news – she hasn’t looked any different for years. But you know what is news? The amazing new centre she helped create that will work to make life easier for women around the world who are beaten, raped and killed just for being women. Go Angie.

She’s great… But it happens to be that the ones that got a nomination are OUTSTANDING DIRECTORS, with even more superior films than ‘Unbroken’.

SantAngelina needs more experience, and I’m sure she’ll evetually get a nomination, or even a win! Because She’s got some great skills as a Director!

  • bap

Dame Angelina movie was very complex to direct and she did an outstanding job with over 100 million dollars domestic. I agree with Jay though about motives.

  • Saffron

This should be re-posted on every single thread, multiple times.

  • bap

Question is your opinion wanted in North Dakota?

  • Fabian

Dear God, why? Once is more than enough. It’s not even relevant to this thread.

  • http://www.instagram.com/bismark_bm Bismark

    Hahaha! What…?

  • bap

    Joke Bismark North Dakota.

  • happy666

Dont worry. She has way more fans than detractors and an amazing husband.

  • bap

    Saffron is right Fabian.

  • Fabian

But why? It has nothing to do with the thread. There are plenty of fan pages dedicated for that kinda stuff.

  • bap

It is relevant, positive and important information to know.

  • beautylover

Who cares about the oscars right ? no one takes them seriously anymore so screw them Angie is AMAZING !

  • bap

  • Fabian

It’s not information, bap – it’s a comment/opinion by a fan that has nothing to do with what Jon Voight said.

  • bap

Fabian I believe Saffron is referring to the Cosmopolitan article.

  • Observer2

Who are you to dictate what goes where?

All you do is rag on Angelina.

  • Observer2

Why don’t you leave. You’ve already given your opinion of what was said. And you said it was delusional.

  • Loather

Gee! I didn’t know that Jolie has had more hundreds, thousands personal, everyday good friends whom she meets every day/week and she tells them her secrets, innermost thoughts, plans, deepest feelings and the reasons of all her actions!

  • tyrn

Agree. She has no talent as a director. It was never gonna be hers to begin with. No real, accomplished director would ever vote for her crap film. She is not a real director and at the DRT, Nolan and The Birdman Director called her out on her lack of movie-making knowdlge and skills. She look pissed when all the directors where fawning over the Boyhood director and not her pathetic garbage movie. Only the loons think Unbroken was a masterpeice. No it was pure garbage and did not deserve any Oscars.

  • tyrn

Yes they do. If Angie doesn’t care about Oscars, then why she she run such a greedy and desperate Oscar campaign and tried very hard to get Best Director? She was after those Oscars more then anyone. She started campaigning for Unbroken before even a single scene was shot. What a pathetic and award-grubbing poser. No real director thinks she is one of them.

  • Juliana

At least Angelina is not referring to herself as #1snubbed.

  • tyrn

    She probably thinks it though.

  • bap

Question are you going by a different blogging name?

  • tyrn

    Who?

  • Juliana

    You read thoughts ?

  • bap

I do not remember seeing your blogging name here

  • tyrn

Well, someone who ran a 30 million Oscar campaign for 1 year, spent another loads of millions on Advertising, Re-shootings, Editing, and going around acting like Stanley Kubrick would probably think they were no.1 snubbed in secret.

  • bap

I am asking you the question.

  • tyrn

Yeah who do you think I am though?

  • bap

Please produce the evidence it was 30 million dollar campaign.

  • bap

You are a fan of Dame Angelina

  • toastie postie

Obviously we watched two different Directors Round Table. No such thing happen.

  • Juliana

Angelina knows lose and is not parading around as the #1snubbed as others are doing

  • Fabian

Errrrr….someone who prefers to read comments related to the thread and not tweets/magazine articles/irrelevant stuff. Is that so hard to digest?

  • Fabian

    How rude.

  • Fabian

Watch it again then – pay closer attention this time. Even Linklater seemed fed up after awhile. Her answers were generic and scripted, and she was clearly out of place. There were a few digs from the more experienced directors – which I must say was rather unkind since she has only directed two films – but she should not have been there in the first place.

  • toastie postie

Looks like you are the one who needs to pay attention.

  • Fabian

I don’t believe Amy Adams would ever refer to herself as “#1snubbed”.

  • Fabian

    Here’s the transcript: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/angelina-jolie-christopher-nolan-director-755357

Show me where she proves herself worthy of being there.

  • toastie postie

Brian, I don’t need a transcript. I’m not the one having a misremembering episode.

  • Juliana

Amy Adams has class and is not like our FRIEND

  • Fabian

That’s ok. Anyone else interested can read it and make up their minds instead of believing lies.

  • Claire

AJP was invited at the DRT, she didn’t asked for invitation. And there was her place ’cause she’s a Director (even of 2 movies).

  • toastie postie

BW, It’s not hearsay. I watched it. But I do agree with you on one thing. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and the other person about the admiration shown to Linklater. He deserved it, as did the actors.
