John Oliver's 'Last Week Tonight' Renewed Through 2017, Won't Take Over 'Daily Show'

John Oliver‘s Last Week Tonight has just been renewed by HBO for not just one, but two additional seasons!

The satirical news program will remain on the network officially until 2017 – which is noteworthy because many were wondering if John would defect back to Comedy Central to take over for The Daily Show and Jon Stewart.

“We are incredibly proud to have John as part of the HBO family,” Michael Lombardo, president of programming at HBO, said in a statement (via Variety). “His unique ability to deliver socially significant commentary week after week, along with his innate comedic brilliance, puts John in a class by himself.”
