Allison Williams Defends Dad Brian Williams Amid His False Reporting Controversy

Allison Williams is coming to the defense of her father, news anchor Brian Williams, after his major scandal involving his fabrication of certain events from his war reporting.

“This has been a really hard time. We have also been very lucky, counting our blessings. We have our health, we have each other. It’s been incredible to experience the outreach from people you love, family, friends, and then people we don’t even know, strangers, just reaching out saying we want him back on TV,” the 26-year-old Girls actress said the New York 92Y on Wednesday evening (February 18) during a Q&A with Seth Meyers (via the New York Post).

“It’s been tough, though. Obviously, toughest on my dad, who bears the full burden of responsibility for it, but one thing the experience has not done is shake my trust and belief in him as a man. He’s a really good man. He’s an honest man. He’s a truthful man. He has so much integrity,” Allison added. “He cares so much about journalism. And yes, he’s a really good dad. I know you can trust him because, as any good daughter does, I’ve tested him on that.”

Allison then recalled a story back in 9th grade when there was a father-daughter dance, and she wasn’t sure her dad would be able to make it.

“As that date was coming, it didn’t seem like he was going to make it like he had promised. And then a couple days before the dance I was so upset and I got a surprise call from Iraq from my dad and he asked me if I had a date to the dance,” Allison recalled. “So, that’s the kind of man he is and I can’t wait for him to be back on TV and I know many of you guys feel that way,”

I think what NBC has done to Brian is ridiculous. It’s not like everyone doesn’t embellish stories some when retelling them. He didn’t do it on the nightly news. He did it on Letterman and other places he was being privately interviewed. Look at Fox News. If they suspended everyone for embellishing the ACTUAL news there would be no Fox News Channel.

What else is Allison Williams going to say about her dad, Brian Williams. No one expects her to say anything to the contrary. But Brian lied and not once, but by all accounts several times. What would make a well-established newsman do something like that? Rather than say that he didn’t lie, Allison perhaps should find out why he lied.
I would never trust him again. And I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way. We are not talking about other news people and other stations, we are talking about a man highly esteemed and doing well who betrayed the public’s trust.

He absolutely reported his fake story on the evening news. Two words: STOLEN VALOR

  • lshelton22

Honest and truthful are not words to be associated with Brian Williams at this time, dear.

  • lshelton22

LOL, well maybe this liar/embellish-er can get a job over on FOX, then. NBC/ABC/CNN/CBS News is supposed to be better than that, not stoop to FOX’s level.

Reporters need to ask her if she’s seen the fuselage from the helicopter in the Bin Laden raid that her dad claims that the Navy Seals sent him (even though he’s never met them and it would be illegal to do so) and that he keeps in his “man cave” at home.. The SEALS have asked Williams to produce the helicopter piece, but oddly, he has not.

Are you delusional? Williams was the DIRECTOR OF THE NEWS DIVISION. That job DEMANDS that you put on factually correct information on air. It DOES NOT permit you to lie on the job, repeatedly for 12 years as Williams did, pal. You do know that both the New York Times and New York Magazine that NBC Execs warned Williams repeatedly about lying and that they had become increasingly alarmed in the last year about them?

Of course she will come to his defense. Allison Williams is daddy’s little girl. As she said she believes him and he is honest and truthful. She still thinks he is an American hero and it is the other people who are lying about him not surviving the Iraq war.

It is really bothersome that people seem to be this stupid … The story everyone is freaking out about was one he told in a late night variety talk show and NOT on any news cast. Some uneducated person below said “his job DEMANDS that you put on factually correct information on air..” … you do realize news anchors are reading teleprompters of stories as written by the news teams? The anchors don’t decide what is on air … the producers and studios have the final say. It just goes to show how little people know. All this fake outrage is just mob mentality and if we weren’t hiding on the internet these cowards wouldn’t have the courage to say anything. Don’t let yourself be so easily manipulated by people rattling off their feelings or half truths … check the facts before grabbing your pitchforks.

he is a public figure and being interviewed on Letterman is not a private interview are you lucid over there ?

  • ladylilarowe

One has nothing to do with the other – he may be a great man personally, but that doesn’t speak to his career, his profession, and him as a journalist and his recent actions. What else would a daughter say about her dad?

  • Guest

They both seem really greasy. He has this very old fashion anchor thing going on, like he’s straight from the 1950s. She’s very self-absorbed in interviews. Both need a long vacation from themselves.

  • Chris

So true. These news anchors just read the news on the air. They don’t create the stories (well, a few journalists have been caught making things up). Looks like Williams just wanted to be one of the cool guys surviving a dangerous situation. He had every opportunity in the world to go down and sign up for the Marines if he wanted to be an actual cool guy. I guess embellishing stories was easier.

possibly the network made him say the things he did for ratings and he is taking the fall.
