Joan Rivers' Daughter Melissa Responds to Oscars 2015 Memoriam Snub

Melissa Rivers has just released a statement after her late mom Joan was omitted from the In Memoriam tribute during the 2015 Oscars.

“It would have been nice, especially considering the impact she had on the awards season, but Cooper and I have been overwhelmed with support and love over my mom’s passing and we choose to focus on that,” the 47-year-old producer wrote on Facebook.

classy response, Melissa. I’m sure you and Cooper miss your mom very much as does her many fans.

  • Marianne Steinmetz

We all miss Joan ….who cares what the politically motivated and out of touch Academy does. Who are they anyway? Great response by Melissa and Cooper!

  • D Johnson

Was she a Hollywood actor? Why should she be recognized?

  • KS

I never thought she was funny. Her humor was about insulting people. I put her in the same category as Triumph the insult comic dog. They were right not to include her.

  • lalasayswhat

Excuse me but others on the list were not “Actors”. They worked in the industry as did Rivers.

  • lalasayswhat

Better to take the high road, which she has done.

  • Lori Doerfler Gingrich

Melissa is doing whatever she can to stay relevant. She has no talent and was famous because of her mother.

Ms. Rivers was a TV star not a movie star nor was she a member of the Academy. If you want to pitch a fit direct it towards the Emmy’s …

  • Anon2

I wasn’t…and have no idea why you would think I was pitching a fit. Merely validating that Melissa and son miss their loved one along with Joan’s fans. Good day, Ms. Grinch.

  • Lori Doerfler Gingrich

we are NOT all Joan fans. some of us have morals and care about others. certainly NOT tearing down other women for what they were wearing or hair etc.. especially when she was nothing but a hunk of plastic, who never cared about anyone else and their feelings as she was tearing into them. so you have a good day. sorry you can’t deal with the truth

  • Arthur Frayn

According to IMDB, Joan Rivers has only been in one film, a documentary about her released in 2010. They don’t even bother with the 1968 Burt Lancaster movie The Swimmer, which Wikipedia says she had a bit part in. Sorry, but criticizing what celebrities wear on the Oscars’ red carpet does not make her actually relevant to the film industry. She did not produce, direct, write, do sound, do effects, make music, ACTUALLY DESIGN costumes, or do any acting of note. The tribute was to departed people who worked in the film industry and made differences. Someone needs to prove the late Ms. Rivers did anything of note IN the movies. Not after them.

Melissa will indeed trash the Academy over the snub. Her mother made millions trashing everyone. Melissa won’t be able to resist. She just showed some temporary discipline, that’s all.

  • kirby76

    Well, there was “Rabbit Test”.

  • kirby76

“…hunk of plastic” isn’t “tearing down” a woman?

And a recently deceased woman at that! Who left a daughter and grandson whose possible “feelings” about your post doesn’t seem to concern you.

  • mdriftmeyer

They were instrumental, behind the scenes, on motion pictures.

Joan should be eulogized on The Emmys.

She had bit roles in a few obscure films early on, but voice characters on all but Iron Man 3 [a bit role].

Sorry, but she was never in major motion pictures.

  • Lori Doerfler Gingrich

nope sorry not in the least. you don’t treat people like that for years on end….. I did not tear her down on a red carpet in front of millions of viewers world wide…. I lost a child don’t talk to me about feelings

  • kirby76

Oh good–”She started it”. I haven’t used that one in a while.

And I don’t see much difference in being “on a red carpet in front of millions of viewers” and on a website accessible to at least as many people.

I am sorry for the loss of your child.

  • Lori Doerfler Gingrich

thank you, me too. every single day. Saturday is the anniversary of the day God called my lil boy home

  • Shag

Many people recognized over the years were not actors.
