Zendaya Forgives Giuliana Rancic For Oscars Hairstyle Comments

Zendaya has accepted Giuliana Rancic‘s apology after she made offensive comments about her 2015 Oscars hairstyle.

“Studies have shown that even though we try to act without prejudice, sometimes it’s just hidden inside us due to our past or surrounding. That hidden prejudice is often influential in our actions. it’s our job to spot these issues within others and ourselves and destroy them before they become hurtful. I have so many people looking up to me, that I couldn’t be scared, wait it out, nor could I just stand up for me; I had to do it for WE. It is in important in this journey, to remember that just because someone has inflicted hurt upon us, it does not give us the right to do the same,” the 18-year-old actress shared on Instagram.

Zendaya continued, “Body shaming and other hurtful tactics will never get the job done. As hard as it was to stop MYSELF from being ignorant and from posting the first mean words that came to my mind because I was hurt, I had to think about the bigger picture. Instead, I sat for two hours on my phone, doing my research and formulating an educated response.

Giuliana, I appreciate your apology and I’m glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network. I hope thatothers negatively affected by her words can also find it in their hearts to accept her apology as well. From a quote we all know by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out have; only love can do that.’ Let’s be that light and spread that love.”

This girl is amazing. Her responses have been so well thought out and kind. I really think the Fashion Police needs to be canceled. I’ve thought this for a long time. It only further’s the stress that women feel about how they dress and look. Why do we need to judge people’s fashion choices on a red carpet? We can say “meh I didn’t like that dress” and whatnot but they go further on that show. It wouldn’t be entertaining I guess if they just sat there and said “nope didn’t like it” or “yes I loved it” every time. This show is just a bullying tactic. Giuliana, Kelly, and Kathy aren’t even stylists or style experts themselves.

Zendaya is so awesome and mature. This payed bullies need to learn that everybody has their limits, even the nicest person has.

  • Bethany

WOW!! What an amazing and mature 18 year old. So much respect for her.

  • DS

Big fan of Zendaya,And I also agree she is very mature for someone so young.

i’m black with dreads and I was not offended…this is being blow out of perportion. Need to move to a new topic now.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

This is all bullsh*t. Let’s ignore the REAL horror going on in the world and focus on this sh*t instead.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

LMAO at anyone who thinks this kid actually wrote those statements.

  • RayonLight

It doesn’t matter if she wrote it or not, what matters is how she handled the situation given that she had every right to lash out at Giuliana. Two adults facing each other in a civil manner and making it right. It’s a lesson that should be learned by other pubic figures that even when being offended, hurt, or attacked by choosing to act maturely you can find a solution to the issue. My respects to this young lady for having class, a good head on her shoulders, and showing humility.

  • Sandy McFarlane

just because you personally werent offended doesnt mean it wasnt offensive.

  • America’s Sweetheart

Her race has nothing to do with her hair looking like shit for the Oscars…She should have known better…Why

  • America’s Sweetheart

Black people need to stop using the race card..FYI.. It is getting really old..Hollywood is full of racist blacks that think they deserve more because they are black..Not so…If anything white people need an apology for all the shit & killings the blacks have put white people through..Seeing as blacks are always the ones to pull the race card first..Next thing you know 2 cops are dead..Yeah blacks aren’t racists are they???

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/cigo8179 Christopher I. Gomes

This is so completely irrelevant, in the grand scheme of black empowerment. “I am not my hair?” But I write a long note stating why?

And here goes this “BS” comment I was waiting for it.

  • goshdarling

I also think it was blown way out of proportion. Black folks aren’t the only who sport dreads. And I certainly don’t think all Blacks do weed, I’m sure Miley would give some stiff competition. And it was banter on FP not CNN or the likes. No one watches FP to be enlightened or educated. Spending 2 hours to make a response for a show that probably uses an eighth of a second to write the script, is a waste of time for this show.

Giuliana clearly said that she didn’t mean the joke in any kind of racist way, that she was thinking about it from another perspective, and Zendaya’s response, she says that Giuliana just has hidden prejudices? That is a really immature and backhanded way to accept an apology. If she says she didn’t mean it that way, then she didn’t mean it that way. Giuliana offered her a sincere apology and this 18 year old girl still wants to act like she’s more educated on the origins of prejudice and knows so much better. I’m sorry her feelings were hurt, but learn how to accept an apology like an adult without throwing additional shade.

  • Cate

I am very impressed by the intelligence and class that Zendaya has shown during this and she is only 18 years old! So refreshing compared to the majority of inarticulate, idiotic airheads in the spotlight

  • kellyf

Seriously. Don’t we have actual problems, even actual race problems, that we could focus on outside of an 18 year old getting her feelings hurt because someone didn’t like her oscars getup?

  • kellyf

You’re right. She could have talked to Giuliana personally, but instead she took her to task in front of millions of people and now people on Instagram are saying to Giuliana that they hope her 3 year old son gets cancer. Good for Zendaya. She handled her problems like a real adult… on social media.

  • Deutschland

Why is it okay to bash white people but once you open your mouth about black people you’re racist. WTH PEOPLE. I don’t hear white people complaining that they’re being picked on for being white when they’re told they look like white trash essentially! If you’re going to dress in a way that is sexually suggestive, culturally suggestive or otherwise… then EFFING DEAL WITH IT!

Guliana needs to eat whatever Kelly is eating to balance the set. Opps! Now I fat shamed…. tsk tsk…

  • Jay

Um they bash black and white celebrities all the time. The also bash Zendaya a lot, but she explained why she wasn’t going to let this one pass. Please they compared Solange’s afro to a dog a few weeks back. So stop it with that Blacks a untouchable nonsense.

  • Jay

Yes, she addressed the issue on a public forum. Ensuring that Giuliana and the E network will be more thoughtful in future.
Not one insult was flung, she just explained the impact negative stereotypes can have.

  • Jay

She moved past Guiliana and was addressing the issue as a whole. It was clear from the start that even though Guiliana’s comments were mean, she wasn’t aware of the racial connotations. But she was making an unconscious negative connection, associating dreadlocks on a woman of colour with drugs (weed). She was using the spotlight to highlight hidden prejudices and how they are dangerous.

  • Deutschland

Then there is no reason to play the race card. Everyone needs an -ism to justify someone else’s shortcomings or their own. Seriously it’s getting offing old…. If you’re going to wear locs, a fro, a lingerie, or whatever else… then take the heat and shut up! You obviously wanted someone to talk about you!

  • Von

Both of their hair is fake.. Solange hair are wigs, especially those stupid dumb fake ass afro’s she wears and these chicks hair is extensions .

So don’t dare call them out on their stupid fake hair making statements because they are going to turn into some black women enslaved teachable moment

No one says shit about Lupita Nyong natural hair , because it’s her hair and she owns it and looks good.

To wear some stupid fake dredlocks to the Oscar’s of all places, not she’s Lisa Bonet it’s natural hair and that’s hairstyle .

Out the blue this loser chick decides to wear fake dreds and of all places to the Oscars , then she cry’s rascim when some calls her on it .

  • kellyf

LOTS of people don’t associate black people with dreads. When I think of dreads, I think of stoners, yes, but I don’t think of any particular race. You’re making a big leap and a lot of assumptions to say that Giuliana was making an unconscious negative connection. You even said yourself that she wasn’t aware of the racial connotations, so how could she have been making a connection when she wasn’t aware that there was a connection? At what point does a person deserve the benefit of the doubt? Why is it that we’re less inclined to think a person didn’t realize there was a negative connotation and just tell them to be careful about making statements like that in the future, and more inclined to brand someone a racist? Almost all of us are a big part of the problem and almost no one is willing to even see that, let alone admit it.

  • Jay

‘You even said yourself that she wasn’t aware of the racial connotations, so how could she have been making a connection when she wasn’t aware that there was a connection?’. That is why I said she made an UNCONSCIOUS negative connection.
No-one is calling Guiana a racist.
A while back people were making fun of Blue Ivy’s hair, even started a petition. India arie spoke up and wrote a letter about it, and it also became a thing. And the ‘famous’ ladies who were making fun of her hair publicly apologised, and expressed how natural black hair is beautiful etc ….
    Everyone involved was black.
My point is if Guiliana were black and she said what she said people would be just as annoyed, maybe a little more so. It’s not really a skin colour thing, it’s more the stigma attached to natural hair.

  • Anastatia Bagans

Exactly. People need to open their f*cking eyes.

  • justme

I am so tired of the race card always being pulled out. Do white people have a channel called “WET”? white entertainment television?? No. BET is racist in its name. Do we have a show called “white-ish”? No. Black-ish is racist. Black people keep talking about being outsiders, or not a part of the whole world. As long as black people continue using the N word, and saying “white people”, they will feel apart. I am neither white nor black, but I had to speak up. How come it is okay for black people to sue the term white people all they want, in songs, in books, in interviews in daily life, but the second someone not black says black people, everyones up in arms calling racism?? Makes NO sense at all.

  • justme

….and furthermore, on Giulianas twitter and instagram, all the Zendaya supporters, calling Giuliana a “skinny b*tch” “rich white b*tch” etc, those are all judgmental and just as rude and disrespectful as what they’re mad at her for saying in the first place. Worse actually, she didn’t insult Zendaya as a person, just her hairdo.

  • http://notonly.ru/ Маргарита Бабовникова

She wouldn’t offended if it was said by black person. So she think one race is allowed to say something that other race can’t say. That make Z racist.

Double standards — the biggest actual problem in USA.

  • Jon M’Shulla

All involved are silly cows and Z listers!

    E is for fools.

    Disney breeds insipid nobodies.

  • Galactic Beauty

First of all, a black person would NOT have made such an ignorant comment! I would agree had the hairstyle been uncouth but it WAN’T! She said, ‘Zendaya looked like she smelled of patchouli oil and weed!’ The urban definition for patchouli oil is: An oil worn as perfume by dirty hippies in lieu of showering or bathing in anyway! First of all, Loc’s are a hairstyle that people of color wear! Secondly, her hairstyle was very stylish and clean! Last but not least, such a comment spewing from someone ignorant who has a blatant disregard for the type of hairstyles worn by person’s of color is RACIST!

this is being blown out of proportion… i usd to love kelly osbourne, now im just annoyed. i don’t admire the fact that she quit, she quit because she doesn’t want to risk hurting her career by staying. have the ba88s to stand up for what you or team says. i really don’t think giulana was being racist. her job is to point out when someone looks like sht and zendaya looked like shit. .. oh and all that cheesy stuff about being hurt and forgiving is immature. sorry zendaya but you dont fool me. nobody is being mean, you just wanted to conveniently make this a big deal.
