Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany Never Wanted Fame & Struggles With It

Tatiana Maslany is stunning on the cover of Flare magazine’s April 2015 issue, out on newsstands now!

Here’s what the 29-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On her first super-lonely months in New York City: “It was horrible. I cried all the time from the shock of being alone in my apartment with only two pieces of Ikea furniture.”

On learning she got Orphan Black: “I was just pounding the pavement, so excited and shocked, and then it sunk in, and I was like, How am I going to do this? I can’t do this. There is no way. I’d never led a series before either, so that was scary. I still have days where I’m like, I don’t know how I’m even going to do this, but it’s fun to have that sense of not knowing.”

On the perils of fame: “I never wanted fame. I’ve never sought it out. I struggle with the whole awards idea. It feeds into this thing that I never thought to be a part of or felt a part of. I just want to work with good directors and cool characters.”

It shows in some interviews. She’s a little standoffish.

But no question, she is brilliant. Truly the best actress in her generation.

honestly – how do you can become an actress or actor if you can’t cope with the fame that comes with it?

  • Anya

Well, I think some actors do want to do the job and enjoy being on stage or set and play their roles, but don’t really want and often expect the fame that comes with it. Both positive reactions and privileges and people complimenting them on their skills and looks and so on, as well as the negative aspects like paparazzi and criticism.

Then why did you choose this job???????? Playing in films…is just that which takes “fame”. I am confused. If anybody steps out in front of the public, the removal of the anonymity. Isn’t this clear?

  • Wendy

It’s similar to why people like Rachel McAdams or Tilda Swinton continue doing movies, but don’t live in the United States. They chose this career because they love what they do. It’s that simple.
