Channing Tatum Developing New Male 'Ghostbusters' Movie

It has just been announced that Channing Tatum and the Russo Brothers are teaming up to develop a male-centric version of Ghostbusters!

The 34-year-old actor would be working on the film with his partners Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, and Ivan Reitman, who produced the original 1984 film.

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Ivan shared to Deadline.

He added, “This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig‘s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers‘ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

As you probably know, there is a female version of Ghostbusters being produced right now with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as the stars.

The original version was “male-centric”. So they are basically just making another remake, of a movie that already has one remake in progress. Freaking Hollywood.

  • Milla

They need to just stop with all versions, male or female. Just stop with the remakes that nobody asked for.

Ugh, please don’t ruin Ghostbusters! After the horrible mess of 21Jump Street (and sequel) I have no faith in Channing Tatums acting abilities.

Not sure, but I can pretty much see what the one with Melissa McCarthy is gonna be like (hint: unfunny)

Foxcatcher is in my Netflix que. I just don’t understand how Channing can be so good in some movies and so freakin bad in others.

Ugh – I am normally opposed to sequels, prequels, remakes, reboots or whatever you want to call them.
However if they did a sequel to Ghostbusters with Bill Murray I would be right in line to get tickets. Without a good comedic lead like him, the franchise is next to nothing IMO, and again that is just my opinion.

And I agree, Hollywood needs to develop some mainstream movies that are original.
