Monica Lewinsky Details Bill Clinton Scandal Like Never Before

Monica Lewinsky is opening up about the Bill Clinton scandal in ways she has never done so before.

The 41-year-old former White House intern was in attendance at the TED Talk in Vancouver, Canada on Thursday (March 19) where she brought up the infamous affair.

“At the age of 22, I fell in love with my boss,” Monica said. “At the age of 24, I learned the devastating consequences… Who didn’t make a mistake at 22?”

“Not a day goes by that I am not reminded of my mistake, and I regret that mistake deeply,” she continued. “In 1998, after having been swept up in an improbable romance, I was then swept up into the eye of a political, legal, and media maelstrom like we had never seen before.”

“This scandal was brought to you by the digital revolution,” Monica added. “It was the first time traditional news was usurped by the Internet, a click that reverberated around the whole world.”

“Now, I admit I made mistakes—especially wearing that beret. But the attention and judgment that I received—not the story, but that I personally received—was unprecedented. I was branded as a tramp, tart, slut, whore, bimbo and, of course, ‘that woman.’ I was known by many, but actually known by few. I get it. It was easy to forget ‘that woman’ was dimensional and had a soul.”

“In 1998, I lost my reputation and my dignity… I lost my sense of self. When this happened to me, 17 years ago, there was no name for it. Now we call it cyber-bullying.”

“Public humiliation as a blood sport has to stop. We need to return to a long-held value of compassion and empathy… I’ve seen some very dark days in my life. It was empathy and compassion from friends, family, coworkers, even strangers that saved me. Empathy from one person can make a difference. Compassionate comments help abate the negativity.”

“Because it’s time. Time to stop tiptoeing around my past … Time to take back my narrative. Anyone who is suffering from shame and public humiliation needs to know one thing: you can survive it. I know it’s hard. It may not be painless, quick, or easy, but you can insist on a different ending to your story.”

she has nothing else in her life than some flick from twenty years ago. sad, i hope she moves on.

  • haley

    She loves the attention.

  • girl93

Oh god, move on girl!! Hilary and Bill did it.

  • Lisa

Who cares!!!!! Stop trying to stay relevant.

  • Trisha Ann May

Wow. How old are the commenters here? Are you old enough to remember what happened? She was f-ing slut shamed by the whole world; then silenced by it. Google Linda Tripp. Start there.

  • gradybridges

Amen. And she rarely ever talks about it. Her life was destroyed by the media. Giver her a break

  • Teni Eliza

I feel bad for her. She was young and naive, he was the president. She’s certainly made is public how sorry she is and how ashamed she was by her behavior. I doubt she’d do it again at her age. She tried to sell handbags years after and was still followed around by it. I know what she did wasn’t good and she deserved to be criticized then, as did he. But it’s over, let’s move on. We’ve allowed Bill to be past it, we’ve allowed Hilary a pass for taking him back, why doesn’t this women get the same?

  • Seriously

Wow, you want people to google Linda Tripp? Lewinsky confided in her “friend” Linda Tripp, who then took what was told to her in confidence and blabbed it to the ENTIRE world.

  • Seriously

Except for the book she wrote and all of the interviews she’s given on the subject, the most recent one just last year.

  • Marianne Steinmetz

Keep speaking Monica…tell your side. He walked away unscathed and his wife is the worst offender of the “war on women.” The Clinton’s are snakes, they should slither off together under a rock…instead of grabbing for power in every election.

  • Marianne Steinmetz

Same should apply to Bill…oh wait, he is flying off to islands in the sun to engage in orgies. Hillary is worst offender..protecting a sexual predator..her husband!

  • gradybridges

And how long did she speak before then? She was in hiding for 10+ years while Pres Clinton made tens of millions speaking. Good for her for getting out there again.

  • sydney jane

She loves playing the victim but, then again, that seems to be the trend these days for women, or at least left-leaning women. Maybe Monica and Ashley Judd should get together for a good cry. Although, what Monica seems to forget is it was actually women’s groups and feminist groups that were so brutal towards her during the Clinton days, in order to protect their beloved Hilary and the serial womanizer, Bill Clinton. They’re the ones who destroyed her. When it comes to bullying women, it’s usually other women who are the most brutal.

  • anotherview2

Spin becomes the new approach to self-definition, different from the traditional approach of knowing others by their words and actions. Spun shamelessly in an continuous narrative by the news media workers, and reduced to a sex joke, ML spins away away from her own actuality as a young adult woman who gave oral sex to the president of the United States in the Oval Office. She skips the part where many other young females would’ve done the same thing given the opportunity. She also skips the part where she told another she went to Washington, DC, with her knee-pads. ML would and could do herself a big favor by simply accepting herself as a very sexual and appealing young woman who enjoys sex adventure with men.

  • anotherview2

For Pete’s sake, people, it’s only sex between a powerful man and a young willing adult female seeking sex adventure with him. This citizen supposes an army of other females would do the same if the opportunity arose.

  • The Truth Hurts

I am so sick of this pathetic loser. Get to Fu*k away. Every few years she comes out and tell the same old detail about her affair over and over again like its something new. No, its not. Your 15 minutes have been over for 2 decades. Get a real job LOSER

  • Trickster

She’s just trying to convert her fame into money by getting back into the public eye. The time is ripe for it since Hillary is about to run for President. It’s hard for me to begrudge people finding a way to make money.

She made a nice chunk of change back when all this happened – remember #1 best-seller Monica’s Story (http://www.amazon.com/Monicas-Story-Andrew-Morton/dp/0312973624)? – and I’ll bet she can get a few hundred thousand more out of it now, if not a cool mill or two, if she plays her cards right. None of you saints and angels would do the same thing?

  • Trickster

It’s not attention. It’s cold, hard cash. Something that I also happen to love.

  • multilis

There you go boys, if you sleep with someone elses wife and people look down on you as a result then they are bullying you.

If you are 22 when you sleep with someone elses wife… who doesn’t make mistakes when they are 22?

Correction, forgot it not really sex if it is oral sex.

  • multilis

Was it really a mistake if you can even 20 years later be a role model/speaker at a big conference based only on being famous for this?

  • multilis

Maybe next year TED can have Arnold Schwarzenegger give an inspiring speech on compassion and empathy based on the bullying he experienced after his wife left him when she found out he fathered a child with the maid.

Who doesn’t make mistakes when you are full of testosterone? Or maybe is is fault of biology, he was born that way because of Genghis khan and others passing their polygamy genes to him, or being a male he has the urge all month to procreate compared to females that only are in heat some of the time.

Afterwards Arnold can sell a book about his maid adventures and make enough money to buy a car from it.

  • VanityInsecurity

    Let it go …

  • multilis

The strange part is not the person selling their wares but the people who are buying it.

Imagine a streaker who suddenly disrobes and gets on field and dances around at end of a close super bowl game in middle of big play and thus is famous for years for changing outcome of game… so years later he can star in TED conference to talk about empathy and bullying against people like him, and he makes a fortune because people want to buy the books detailing how he coated himself with veg oil before he went streaking and how he chased after the quarterback because he likes quarterbacks.

The Kim Kardashian era of royalty…. famous for being famous even 20 years later. Why do people pay for this?

  • Mr.Sardonicus

The american public has gotten past it ,but Monica hasn’t. Her whole identity is wrapped up in the Clinton hummer and the blue dress.

  • Fettabob

she ran out of money i guess

  • Trisha Ann May

Linda Tripp was a woman in her late 40′s who betrayed the trust of a 22 year old girl. All Lewinsky is doing is taking her identity back. It’s not about attention or money. By being in the media, she’s actually confronting the media.

  • Trisha Ann May

    PREACH!!!

  • Tess Trueheart

Let it go, Monica. It wasn’t your first fling with a married man,

so, dust yourself off, hold your head high, keep your mouth shut, and have a good life.

  • JC

    I agree with you TE.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

Interesting. She says not a day goes by that she isn’t reminded of her past, but yet she won’t stop writing and talking about it herself. She’s had numerous opportunities to make something of her life that isn’t about “that period”, yet every time she starts something (school, purses, what have you) she drops it and gets herself back in the spotlight talking about “that period”. She seems to love being known. And if bringing up her embarrassments and humiliations will keep her known, then that seems to be a sacrifice she’s willing to make — for years to come.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

To be honest, she’s never come across to me as being ashamed. I don’t think she was ever ashamed — not then, not now. I think she’s embarrassed by how the thing played out and how it became SUCH an incredibly public spectacle — but that’s not the same thing as being ashamed. I don’t think she’s any more ashamed by that affair than she was by the affair that she had immediately after that with the married doctor whose baby she aborted — she admitted that on TV (the affair AND the abortion). She’s never been ashamed. I think she’d do it all over again if she thought it could stay on the down-low.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

And the beret! Don’t forget the beret! She sure hasn’t.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

She was JUST talking about it last year. And she talked about it before that as well. Monica has her hand in keeping herself in the news surrounding this topic.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

Yesssss. Thank you! So sick of people making her a helpless victim.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

I think the point is: Why is she speaking AT ALL about this topic? It doesn’t matter how many years there are in between the times she chooses to speak. Why does she continue to throw herself back into this topic?

I’ll tell you why. Because now that “internet bullying” and “slut-shaming” are more and more a part of social awareness, she’s seeing an “in” for herself. Monica is ALWAYS looking for an in.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

“forgot it not really sex if it is oral sex.”

That’s my favorite part of the whole affair: while Monica has ALWAYS waxed poetic about their “romance”, “affair”, “falling in love”, the fact remains that her “lover” wouldn’t even put his penis in her or his mouth on her. He stimulated her with a cigar and allowed her to give him a BJ. For a “lover”, he was a pathetic mess. Don’t forget: he quoted the Bible to her. He also had her under his desk AT WORK rather than take her to a hotel like any normal wealthy man with power would do. She never even lay in a bed with this pathetic creep. Yet she continues to talk about their “love affair” as if it were anything but the trashy, embarrassing mess that it really was. Monica has always been in a fantasy about Bill Clinton — she still is. That’s where her head lives.

  • TomaATL_AlKilo

Great, it’s the fault of the internet, the media, cyber bullying etc… But it is never, ever the fault of the old pervert that took advantage of a quite young person. Fake progressive “war on women” double standard deflection.

  • Aisaiko

Can someone please give this girl a reality show so she can make another stupid mistake that she can cry about for another 2 decades? Obviously a living a private life isn’t something that she is interested in. So a reality show is the only thing that makes sense. So give her the freaking show already.

However, there is no changing THIS narrative. A 22 year old adult with a job in the White House should have enough scruples not to sleep with their married boss. At the very least the common sense not to tell anyone. I’m not saying she should be stoned to death or harassed. However, this woman is no innocent. And she’s no fool either. She’s after something (and it isn’t an apology or understanding).

  • vfocused

When you are broke, money will make you put down everything and anyone. She sees no shame in getting paid to keep smearing the Clintons. She has no job except for money she’s getting paid to keep speaking out about nothing.

  • vfocused

Monica made the decision to get on her knees in the oval office, no one forced her. She wont let anyone forget by moving on with her life. Instead, she keeps reminding people of her stupidity. Bringing it up over and over is not helping her either. If you could not get a job, why keep reminding people of the reason to not hire you. If it was 17 years ago then why spend 17 years talking about it, as if you have nothing in this world you could possible do. She has never shown anyone anything else that she is good at besides coming out with this story. So I guess because Hillary may be running for President she now wants to get paid, I mean enuf with the waste of life! That’s the reason I would not hire her because she doesn’t know when to shut up. She keeps taking bribes to degrade someone who has not said a peep to malign her. Why would you do this to the wife when you messed around with her husband? Why keep disrespecting everyone involved including yourself over and over and over? Is the pay that much? That you would keep dragging your own family name in the public again and again. Sorry but she deserves every thing that is coming to her. God don’t like ugly and she keeps it up continuously. That is why she will never amount to anything. She is hurting herself and her family more than anyone else. The Clintons will always be the victors in this because they are not saying anything negative about her. She is making herself a fool again! She is too old to still be acting foolish. Grow up Monica and do something productive with whats left of your pathetic life! You have only hurt yourself with your mouth. Pun intended. lol

Had to explain to a young teenage daughter, who she was.

Teenage daughter was grossed out, by all parties involved.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

I haven’t interpreted her as smearing the Clintons. Because, you know, if she wanted to … if she really, really, really wanted to … you know she’s got more dirt than she’s ever shared. I really think Monica is out for Monica — like it’s always been. Nothing’s changed with her.

  • https://twitter.com/thedreadofpenny Penny Dreadful

The depth of Monica’s narcissism is something that should have been written in-depth about during that period. I never saw anyone even tackle this: How the hell could a fat, basic, 22-y/o girl have the cajones to go after the President of the United States?? Sending signals with her beret!! There are women 10X smarter, sexier, and more beautiful that would never make a move on someone as high up the food chain as the POTUS. So why/how did Monica Lewinsky have the complete balls to do it? That’s something that never got addressed and I wish it would have. It’s the psychology of the whole affair — including Bill’s pathetic actions — that as always fascinated me.

  • david letterman

I can’t remember – what is she known for?

  • suzybel

Sorry Monica, you were 22, you should have known better. And we are all over it, you should be too. Quit trying to fame yourself again.

  • Salma

What is wrong with everyone in these posts? can’t you just be nice to other human beings? Why does it matter if she did something bad? So did Clinton? Is her talking about it harming you in anyway? No? Then stop being horrible and calling her names! If you wanna do something and then talk about and earn tons of money then go for it. You wouldn’t like it of someone starts calling you a money grabbing whore. Being horrible to other people won’t make you any richer. Even if the people who you are talking about are horrible.

  • haley

But most of us would chose to get money the hard way, go out and earn it.

  • haley

But she sure got well paid by the taxpayers in a settlement.

  • haley

I think she is getting paid to keep bringing it up.

  • haley

And her parents never told her she shouldn’t have an affair with a married man?
