Trevor Noah Responds to Controversy Over His Old Tweets

Trevor Noah is responding to all the controversy surrounding old tweets he sent out that some consider to be sexist and/or anti-Semitic.

“To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian,” the 31-year-old comedian tweeted.

The tweets surfaced less than 24 hours after Trevor was named the new host of The Daily Show, succeeding the longtime host Jon Stewart.

Comedy Central is sticking by Trevor‘s side and has already released a statement supporting him.

I’m sick of all these humorless people condemning a comedian for a joke(s) they didn’t like. This is the reason the humorless/bland show The Big Bang Theory is #1. People don’t want to be offended in any way. I wish George Carlin was alive to eviscerate these humorless dolts.

Many of those tweets are pretty damned bad and they weren’t that long ago. There’s a strong anti-semitic and sexist theme going on there. I think it reflects pretty badly on him.

Carlin didn’t trade in sexist, racist or anti-semitic jokes. He was hilarious without denigrating whole classes of people.
