Dr. Fredric Brandt's Death Was Ruled a Suicide

Dr. Fredric Brandt‘s tragic death this weekend has been ruled a suicide.

“From what we have determined, it was a suicide,” a spokeswoman for the Miami police told People in a statement.

Following initial reports that he was battling an illness, a rep for the late dermatologist spoke out to confirm that he was suffering from depression.

“It is absolutely not a terminal illness,” his rep said. “His publicist can confirm that he suffered from depression.”

Fredric reportedly was upset over the way he was depicted by actor Martin Short in the new Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

We send our thoughts and condolences out to Fredric‘s loved ones during this difficult time.

Why should anyone care that some doctor killed themself.

This is sad. Hollywood doesn’t think, when they mock or make fun of a person, how that may impact the person they are mocking. RIP, Dr. Brandt.

    You are an idiot.

If he had depression, a parody would not be the cause of his death. If you work in Hollywood, by nature you must be resilient to rejection and criticism. The show was funny and until now, no one knew they were making a reference to this doctor.

I didn’t say the parody caused his depression, and I do not believe that it did, but I do believe it may have pushed him over the edge. I guess I did not make myself clear.
And you are wrong if you think no one knew the show was making a reference to Dr. Brandt. I knew immediately that they were mocking or mimicking Dr. Brandt, but, I could not remember his name and referred to him as Madonna’s Dermatologist. I’m sure I’m not the only one that made that connection. He is very well known and so is his look.

The show is a comedy and made social commentary about the use of cosmetic surgery while mocking those that work in the industry. It’s a stretch to say that his depiction was foreseeable to push someone with mental illness to commit suicide. Artistic expression, parody, satire, comedy… they can’t and shouldn’t be censored, especially if this is an example for why.
