“I didn’t want to speak for the sake of it or just because I had the platform. I wanted to be 100% sure, and this UN role is just perfect for me,” Emma shared to Elle at the gala, which honored the 100 most influential people in the world.

She added, “We need to stop preaching to the choir because feminism, women’s rights and gender equality aren’t about man-hating. When the UN explained the HeForShe campaign to me, I said: ‘This is it, let me run with it, because this is 100% my take on how we move forward.’”

Hmmm I thought she came up with ‘heforshe’. Takes away a little that they pitched it to her, but only a little.

It shouldn’t be but, unfortunately it is.

unfortunatley feminism has become about man-hate and bashing

  • frikibabe

It’s tiring to read or hear what she says about this. The topic is so boring and old-fashioned

What’s wrong with that? I think she can rock being a redhead. It worked for Jena Malone.

Feminism is about equality for EVERYONE regardless of gender, race, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation. This is why it irks me when people say they are not feminists. Why the hell not??

  • Gabrielle

No it hasnt. If anything, the opposite is true. It was more about bra burning, man hating, etc back in the 70s. These days it’s about equality. I was ignorant about it too until I took Women’s Studies a few years ago. Being a feminist is the most common sense thing ever. I mean all people should be equal. Women should not get paid less than men or be held to a lesser anything just because we can have children. It’s infuriating that this is even still an issue and I love that people like Emma are using their fame to speak up about it. People need to listen.

The problem is that the loudest and most articulate spokespeople in the feminist movement aren’t trying to build an inclusive movement. the vague divisive generalizations about “the patriarchy,” “rape culture,” “male privilege” etc piss off a lot of the men who are feminists by the dictionary definition ie believe in gender equality. if the movement focused more on practical policy recommendations and less on all the naughty things men do, it would have broader support
