Will Poulter to Play Scary Clown Pennywise in 'It' Remake

Will Poulter is in talks to play famous horrifying clown Pennywise in a remake of Stephen King‘s scary film It.

True Detective director Cary Fukunaga will take on the film with the 22-year-old We’re the Millers star in the leading role.

It was originally a TV movie starring John Ritter and Tim Curry, who played the clown and instantly became a cult classic. Cary has insisted the film version will stay true to Stephen King‘s novel, which is very lengthy.

Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn were also apparently contenders for the role, Variety reports. But, Cary could not turn down Will after giving an amazing audition!

That kid?! Come on! No one can out-perform Tim Curry, that man is a legend! He IS the clown! Scared me almost to death as a kid, brilliant actor!

if you watch it again, it does need a remake. it’t not very good, but there are enough memorable scenes to make it iconic.

Well it does say the choice was based on his “amazing audition”.That’s interesting because I feel he caters to a younger audience vs. Curry who would scare children and adults alike. However, he does have that look and since ultimately he was cast on merit then I’m excited to see what Fukunaga does with this.

  • evie

I would agree but I guess that’s what makes it a cult classic.

  • Imzadi

I really liked it, but it doesn’t to the book justice. So why not?
