Kim Kardashian Speaks Out About the 'Taboo' of Mental Illness

Kim Kardashian flaunts her curves while attending a signing for her new book Selfish held at Barnes & Noble at The Grove on Thursday (May 7) in Los Angeles.

The 34-year-old reality star recently spoke about mental illness.

“For me, I have experienced so many friends who have suffered from depression and other mental illnesses. And because I’ve never experienced it, I don’t understand it,” Kim said during a Google hangout (via HuffPo). “I wanted to really inform myself because it’s not just something that you can snap out of.”

Kim added, “It’s something that I feel is a little bit taboo. I also think it’s hard for people to admit they have a mental illness and I want them to know it’s okay. And there is help available.”

    she is suffering Alzheimer yet?

Kind of funny she says that yet her brother is obviously suffering from something. Yet she tells her mom to give rob tough love. She’s stupid. So tired of her.

    ha…true

Man, it seems Kim doesn’t seem to understand a lot of things. How many things has she talked about in the past where she’s admitted to being completely clueless. One of the last things was racism, and how she never understood it or got it until she had North but then Kanye explained how Kim taught him about racism through things Kim’s dad taught her (so which is it, dad or North .. another example of Kim not being able to keep her stories straight). And what’s happening with Bruce, she was always supportive but then something came out that Kim couldn’t understand what Bruce was going through and Kanye had to explain to her what it must feel like to know who you are but how hard it must be to live a lie and not being able to be your true self.

And considering your brother is suffering heavily from mental illness, it’s amazing you haven’t learned anything. But then again, your idea of treatment for your brother’s mental illness is to just throw him out and to stop coddling him. Because that will save him. And it’s not a little taboo, it is massively taboo in this country.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when a person says, “Well I’ve never experienced XYZ but here’s my 2 cents on how to fix the problem because I know all.” Just stop. If you want to bring awareness to a problem, great wonderful, but starting your statement by telling the world how perfect you are and have never suffered from XYZ, it’s annoying as fuck.

Just part of this campaign to make her look more serious and thoughtful, when it’s clear that the only thought in her head is me, me, me, photoshop, selfie, photoshop. Pretending she is interested in Armenia by tramping all over the country with her film crew is another example. I don’t think anyone is buying the make-over.

Spell check on the headline, please.

  • thebutcher

You’ve never experienced it? Your flamer is the epitome of mental illness

  • thebutcher

Don’t forget her blatant disrespect to the Armenian culture by wearing that bright red thing at a time of remembrance

  • Patty Lynn Bugger-Partida

yea such an expert go help your brother!!

  • Deanna777

Lol!! That’s rich! She says she never experienced mental illness. If constantly taking photos of yourself and needing attention like people need air isn’t some form of mental illness, I don’t know what is. That whole family (except the kids) suffers from it.

  • amykinjomo

Thank you! I was wondering when that extra “L” was added to the word mental…maybe it’s for people who are extra crazy?

  • Mz.Understood

Dimbutt doesn’t think she suffers from a mental illness? Really? OMG! I actually thought that she was aware and was just ‘ok’ with it. This makes it sound as if she doesn’t even KNOW!

I guess it is like so many things, you can see it in others, but not in yourself. She is more mentally damaged than ANYBODY that I can think of! Tori is bad, Kendra is bad, but Dimbutt is FAR FAR worse.

  • Mz.Understood

I thought that was the way Dimbutt spelled it!

  • rz715

Does she not realize she and her Mom and sisters are all narcissistic and that is a mental health issue?

They are an example!! They need the mental health help, all of them!!

  • rz715

She is a narcissist with her own mental health issue but is too blind to look at her own personality disorders.

  • Peeker Boo

I think Rob’s problem is that he DOESN’T suffer from mental illness like his mother & sisters obviously do.

I think Rob’s “depression” is a sign he is fully aware of how dysfunctional & disgusting his family is but he won’t cut ties to them because he does like getting that paycheck.

  • NEW WORLD DIGITAL MAN

So now she’s a “mental health expert” because of her kin folk. Hey Kim, did your brain fart come after you sat under a bo tree in India? Or did you just realize you could’ve had a V8? Do you think you’re a bodhisattva now? Having delusions of grandeur is a mental illness trait. Mental illness is WAY too complicated, more than you can fathom. So you better step down from your ivory tower and experience a real life, or you can go back to your “bar + temple + massage parlor” scene. Get out of the limelight, make your “secret journey” but don’t come back. You have a long way to go in attaining “holiness” or Buddhahood or whatever.
