The Simpsons' Harry Shearer Leaves Over Contract Dispute

Harry Shearer, who has been a part of the cast of The Simpsons for over 25 years, is leaving the show over a contract dispute.

The 71-year-old actor says that his contract is not being renewed after he held out in negotiations for the upcoming seasons as he wanted to do side projects in addition to the classic animated series.

“From [Simpsons executive producer] James L. Brooks‘ lawyer: ‘Show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best,’” Harry tweeted. In a second post, he wrote, “This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best.”

Harry has voiced many of the fan favorite characters over the years, including Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Waylon Smithers, and Principal Skinner.
