Sam Shepard Arrested on Suspicion of Drunk Driving
Sam Shepard was arrested on Monday (May 25) on the suspicion of drunken driving in Santa Fe, N.M.
The 71-year-old Oscar-nominated actor, who can be seen in the new Netflix series Bloodline, was arrested after the security guard at a restaurant complained about a possibly intoxicated driver, according to the Associated Press.
“Our officer could smell alcohol on his breath, and he had bloodshot, watery eyes,” Santa Fe police Lt. Andrea Dobyns said.
The cops were called after he tried to leave the restaurant in his pickup truck, but the emergency brake was on. Sam reportedly told the officers that he had two tequila drinks and was planning to drive home. He declined to take a breathalyzer test and he failed a field sobriety test.
This is the second time that Sam has been arrested on drunken driving charges. He was previously arrested in central Illinois after driving 16 mph over the speed limit at double the legal blood-alcohol limit.
