Melissa McCarthy: 'People Don't Stop at Size 12'

Melissa McCarthy strikes a pose while stepping out for the premiere of her new movie Spy held at Odeon Leicester Square on Wednesday (May 27) in London, England.

The 44-year-old actress was joined on the red carpet by her co-stars Jude Law, Jason Statham, Allison Janney, and Miranda Hart.

Melissa recently opened up about the frustrations of shopping.

“People don’t stop at size 12. I feel like there’s a big thing missing where you can’t dress to your mood above a certain number,” Melissa said (via HuffPo). “[Malls] segregate plus-size. It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. ‘We’ll put you gals over there because we don’t want to see you and you probably don’t want to be seen.’”

Can’t blame the stores for trying to discourage women to be purposely as unhealthily fat as Melissa McCarthy.

  • Baseliner

yes melissa, let’s encourage obesity. idiot

  • FerCat

Shoe sizes don’t go on forever neither.

  • 55vineyard

I used to be a size 16 and the pickings are slim for very large misses sizes or very small, most selection is in the size 10-12 range. Try shopping online if you can, no hassles with parking at the mall, etc.

Agree 100000% – now prepare for your comment to get downvoted to infinity by women who are as big as melissa. Ladies, don’t expect the world to change to accommodate your unhealthy choices.

  • blue_sea

manufacturing plus sized clothing is a lot more money/fabric/design/labor than making normal size clothes. making clothes for people that are really heavy is hard cause the weight distribution/measurements vary from person to person (fat deposits in different places). These clothing stores are businesses – they are there for the sole purpose to make money. if something isnt cost effective then they wont make/distribute it. it isnt a moral issue or anything, it literally has to do with $$$$. If something bothers you in life you should be pro-active and change it. If it upsets you that you can’t find clothes you love then get healthy and lose that problem!

You were OK Melissa (just OK though) before you were a feminazi. Now you are just a boring feminazi who says what you think the press wants to hear.

  • Baseliner

i’m not saying that pencil thin is healthy. i’m just saying that melissa is basically encouraging obese people to not work out or be healthy.

Britshit can’t be CIA, obviously, so this propatainment junk import is dead before they even try to troll it into America from across that ocean. Apeshit apeshows will never make it across that ocean, ape losers.

I’m really tired with fat-embracing, skinny-shaming trends these days. Why is being thin suddenly a bad thing? I’m a tall, slim girl but haven’t always been this way. I was never obese but more like soft until I hit the gym and started eating right to tone myself up. Why is it a bad thing? Because I’m motivated, health oriented and believe in self-improvement? YES, taking time and effort into exercise is in all means self-improvement and only lazy insecure people would say it’s vain.

All was well until I became a victim of thin-shaming by women around me. As if it just happened overnight.

Seriously, I’m all for embracing your body type if it’s healthy. You don’t need to be size 0 to look and feel great in your own skin but these weeks posts about how sexist it is and politically incorrect to comment on bigger people is draining. No, I won’t say Lena looks great in her lingerie but I will say good for her and I’m happy she feels good in her skin. But don’t perpetuate the notion that this is a healthy look that should be allowed. Obesity is a serious life-threatening condition and people are just inviting the sufferers to eat more fries.

    These comments are so disgusting

  • FaceOfThe_E

Skinny/average people making a big deal and accusing Melissa McCarthy of encouraging obesity and skinny shaming is ridiculous. She’s not encouraging obesity, she is basically complaining about not being able to find clothes that are her size at the mall. Obesity is an epidemic, most likely caused by modern technology, which has led to extreme laziness and the habit of buying cheaper microwaved foods, which are jacked in saturated fats and sodium(which causes more cravings). There are more girls on the fat than skinny side these days, so why not make the clothes bigger?

All overweight people are not unhealthy, I know a few overweight people who are in good health. So people making that claim are just ignorant. It’s not like McCarthy is morbidly obese or qualifying for “My 600 Ib life.” She’s even lost weight. From the photos up there, she’s a size 16 to 18 at best.

You people are overreacting, as usual. But then again, it seems like you can’t say anything about anybody, without everybody being so freakin’ sensitive to anything and we wonder why comedians aren’t funny anymore and why the entertainment quality of movies and TV have dropped. Sad.

  • ohmyohmyohmy

Beautiful before but even more beautiful now. Keep up the good work girl and congratulations.

  • Ultraworld

    A 12? She’s a lot bigger than a 12. Try 16.

  • balute

If I down voted you, it would be for your arrogance.

  • spazze

Melissa has worked hard to lose weight and I can see it! You Go Gurl!!!
And for the clothing in the stores, it has nothing to do with promoting obesity or overweight, it’s simply just nice to go shopping with your friends and not have to split up or wait the other one out until the other one can pick their clothes.
It’s sad that people Think that someone wants and thrives to be overweight/obese.
