Rashida Jones Slams Cannes Film Festival's High Heel Rule: 'It's Sexist'

Rashida Jones is the latest celebrity to slam the Cannes Film Festival for their rule that women must wear high-heeled shoes.

“It’s part of a larger problem, which is heels are the worst. They make your legs look better, whatever, but mainly it’s men designing them and setting these rules. … If they make a rule where that I have to wear heels on the carpet, then I’m making a rule that I’m just going to wear flats any time I’m asked to wear heels,” the 39-year-old actress said on Tuesday evening (May 26) during the Nightly Show on Comedy Central.

“I think it’s a snobbery thing. I think it’s like ‘this is the way we do things here,’ you know, and it’s sexist,” Rashida added.

Emily Blunt also voiced her concern at the rule – read what she said here if you missed it!

Rashida went on the show to promote Hot Girls Wanted, a documentary she produced that sheds light on Florida’s amateur porn industry through the experiences of five young women in the business. The doc hits Netflix on Friday!

Then don’t effing buy them. Those shoes won’t exist if women don’t prop up the industry. It’s sexism by women to women.

A vegan butcher comes to mind.

It’s become so trendy in Hollywood to talk about sexism and misogyny, that half of the people making statements don’t even have a bit of insight on what they’re talking about. Women are expected to wear heels, just as men are expected to wear dress shoes. If there’s no specific guideline for how high the heel is, pop on a pair of quarter/half inch kitten heels and focus on some real problems in life.

Actually, it’s still the #1 film festival in the world.

Men usually have ugly feet. Some women do, too, but most of them at leat try, with pedicures and nail polish. Men should keep their shoes on.

  • lshelton22

    Actually, it’s not.

  • Michele V

Well, what is then? It’s one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals. Venice and Berlin are next, but they don’t quite attract the attention Cannes does.

  • BB53

Uh-huh. They require heels and then allow the to be half-inch. Sure.
    Idiot.
