Iggy Azalea Explains Why She Really Cancelled Her 'Great Escape Tour'

It’s been a busy couple of days for Iggy Azalea – she just got engaged on Monday (June 1) – and she also just had to make the difficult decision to cancel her Great Escape Tour with little explanation.

Now, the 24-year-old entertainer is opening up to Seventeen about why she really cancelled her tour.

“I’ve had a different creative change of heart. I want to start totally anew, and if I stayed on my tour, that would mean I wouldn’t even be able to start working on that until after Christmas,” Iggy said. “On top of that, mentally, to be honest with you, I just feel I deserve a break. I’ve been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day. I’m not in a bad place. I think sometimes when you say you need a mental break, people are like, ‘A mental break? Be sure you don’t have a breakdown because you’re sad.’ No, not necessarily. It’s very emotionally draining to be on all the time and going all the time, planning all the time.”

Iggy also cites the opening acts as a reason she didn’t go through with the tour.

“I’ve had a different creative change of heart. I want to start totally anew, and if I stayed on my tour, that would mean I wouldn’t even be able to start working on that until after Christmas. On top of that, mentally, to be honest with you, I just feel I deserve a break. I’ve been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day. I’m not in a bad place. I think sometimes when you say you need a mental break, people are like, “A mental break? Be sure you don’t have a breakdown because you’re sad.” No, not necessarily. It’s very emotionally draining to be on all the time and going all the time, planning all the time. It’s a lot, and it’s tough. I need a break from everything to just enjoy what I worked so hard for, and I don’t really feel like I’ve had a chance to do that. I need a break to figure out what I want my sound to progress to, and I need a break to figure out how I want my visuals to progress. It can kind of wear on you, too, when you’ve been doing the same material for a really long time. Even though a lot of people just discovered it, I am a musician and a creative person and I want to be able to perform new stuff and do new things. I feel like I’m at the end of an era now. To go on a tour in late September and to stay in that mindset of what I’d envisioned for that tour, I feel like that would stifle me. And then, on top of that, once I postponed [the tour the first time], I couldn’t find two opening acts. I began the search, and to be honest, I never found someone who was available on those dates that I thought was a good fit for the tour.”

Let’s be real- nobody was buying tickets to her show so she bailed. She’s a one hit wonder and the only thing most people remember from her hit is the hook which she doesn’t even sing.

  • onehunnit

lol thats what i was saying. She’s a new artist what made her think she can headline a tour when her only real hit was “Fancy” Her ego was too big to admit that her team made a mistake in estimating her popularity.

  • Sara

She’s not built for the entertainment business. Beyonce and Rihanna never takes a break and thats why they’re the biggest artist out.

  • Aubrey

Taylor Swift has been working nonstop since she was 16… Iggy “worked” for two years and need a break, lmfao.

The reason why she cancelled the tour was bc it wasnt selling, she does great with singles but people don’t want to see her live bc: she doesnt rap live AND they only know like 2 or 3 songs, no one is gonna pay to listen to 3 songs they know and then sit down during the rest of the set, she should’ve started out as the supporting act for some bigger artist

Pretty long way of saying “I got cocky and wanted to sell out arenas but nobody wanted to come” I mean thats why she postponed her original tour in the first place.

Why won’t she just say it flopped? What a joke

It can kind of wear on you, too, when you’ve been doing the same material for a really long time.

I’m no expert, but I believe that most rappers alleviate this through freestyling, mixtapes, and writing new material. …oh.

ppl are different. if one can work 24/7, it doesnt mean that others can

  • Sara

and that’s why she’s not built for entertainment.
