Queen Elizabeth Is Not Dead, Despite BBC's False Tweets

The world went into a panic on Wednesday (June 3) after a tweet sent out by a BBC journalist said that Queen Elizabeth had died (she is very much alive).

BBC broadcast journalist Ahmen Khawaja tweeted, “BREAKING: Queen Elizabeth is being treated at King Edward 7th Hospital in London. Statement due shortly: @BBC World.” A short time later, she added, “‘Queen Elizabeth has died’: @BBCWorld.”

The palace immediately shot down these rumors: “This was a routine pre-scheduled appointment. The queen has now left [the] hospital and carries on with her engagements.”

The BBC later offered an explanation as to what happened. “During a technical rehearsal for an obituary, tweets were mistakenly sent from the account of a BBC journalist,” the statement read. “The tweets were swiftly deleted and we apologize for any offense.”
