Really…? “We all have to do these things for business purposes, you know, international value”. Majority of actors involved in Marvel movies have been known for years before becoming involved in their movies. Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Stellan Skarsgard, freaking Samuel L. Jackson.

But well, maybe if you’re known for starring in mediocre romcoms with naive plots that’s what you “have to do”. It’s a shame to hear such a declaration from her because I used to find her really likeable.

  • FerCat

Funny enough, if you look at her list of mediocre romcoms you’ll get only one and she was not the lead, Heigl was. Her romcom cred is actually a myth.
Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. were not actually in great standing prior to their franchise entry.

She’s talking about global brand name recognition. It matters.

  • Danae

Okay, maybe using the specific term “romcom” was wrong – I meant that she does little to choose diverse roles that could allow her to show her versatility. Dear John, Mamma Mia, Letters to Juliet, The Big Wedding – her roles in these movies are pretty much the same.
I’ve watched In Time with her and Justin Timberlake and it just (apart from the fact that the whole movie was generally disappointing) doesn’t work for her. She’s this sweet kind of young woman who will maintain her teenage-like, charming appearance for years…
That’s why I compared her to Scarlett – before being involved in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, she was in Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Other Boleyn Girl…I have a feeling that she’s been far more popular due to advertisement campaigns and her modelling work, Marvel didn’t “shoot her to international stardom”.

I do realise that it’s all about becoming a household name all around the world – I really do. I’m not trying to diminish her value as actress as well – it just does not seem right to bash other people’s choice to star in these movies while you yourself choose to play it safe for the majority of time.

I recommend you watch Jennifer’s Body and Gone for a better perspective.

Looking like Amanda Seyfried can work against her. She’s small and looks young. That can be limiting.

You mentioned the 2 films when Scarlett was very much the it girl. After which she started coasting. Marvel put her back on the upswing.

In Time, . Justin was what’s wrong with that movie. Bomer woulda done the better job.

She didn’t actually bash other peoples work, she just abhors wire work stunts. She was pegged for Zoe Saldana part btw but refused to take it.

Some of your points are valid and she does need to kick it up a notch.

  • PlayNice

She didn’t actually say anything bad about being in super hero movies. She just basically said they aren’t for her. She loves watching them, being in the audience, but doesn’t want to wear the suit. I don’t get why anyone would take offence to that.

Do not worry sweetie. No one is going to ever ask you to appear in one…..again.

  • beautylover

LOL she’s been asked many times to be in these movies she was asked to be in “guardians of galaxy” so yeah she can be in them whenever she wants sweetie.

  • beautylover

Excuse me while i agree with some of your points like Amanda tends to play a lot of similair characters i disagree that Scarjo was already big before Marvel picked her up,her career was flopping till she was on Iron Man and that’s when she got on track again and all she’s doing now are Marvel movies which says a lot about her,and i think that you should watch Jennifer’s Body,Chloe and Lovelace these are the movies that shows how great Amanda is as an actress she isn’t just a romcom actress since she only was in like 2 romantic comedies.

  • Danae

Thanks for the recommendations – will definitely watch these films later, I always look forward to broadening my horizons when it comes to movies.
I do agree very much that while she won’t (probably) look harsh in her 30s, it might not be a blessing for her career and the diversity of characters to play.

As for Scarlett – that’s why I mentioned the ads as well. During these last years she’s been more known as a face of ‘something’. She’s in fairly similar situation – labelled as a “sexbomb” with majority of people just expecting her to simply be naked and sexy in the movies.

Fair enough, I will watch these – out of sheer curiosity to see how she does in different roles.

Scarlett, though, has some other projects than Marvel movies – right, these started flowing after being involved with Marvel. Considering the fact that she was pregnant last year and has a quite young child, I wouldn’t expect her to be involved in lots of movies right now.

Also, Scarlett is only one of the actors that I’ve listed – what about Stellan Skarsgard or Samuel L. Jackson? I highly doubt they decided to join Marvel forces to gain more recognition.
There’s also Cobie Smulders – she’s definitely more famous for being Robin than Maria Hill. (still, typical one hit wonder)

Also, punctuation marks are pretty useful.

  • FerCat

    Check out Chloe also.

Scarlett lost the ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ because the director though she was too sexy. Good looks isn’t always to ones advantage.

Directors have their own ideas what a character should look like. In challenging roles often petite and cute is not in the criteria.

  • Danae

    True that!
Btw, Rooney Mara nailed it in TGWTDT – all cute in the Social Network and edgy as Lisbeth Salander. Yeah, I also remember Fincher admitting that he’s considered Scarlett for this role – I’m quite glad it didn’t work, though. Rooney was fabulous.

  • beautylover

yeah but what Amanda meant was for actresses in her age range that all have to do at least one Marvel movie to gain that bankbale statue !

  • FerCat

Rooney Mara exudes dark and edgy.
She’s like the anti-Amanda Seyfried. The energy they convey are polar opposites. One is bright and cheery, the other is dark and broody yet both are mesmerizing.

  • Jon M’Shulla

No…you must be her agent or in her employee. She is on the s*h.i,t* list.

  • beautylover

she stated it you moron !

  • Jon M’Shulla

No one wants the ignorant has been that is Amanda Seyfried in any of their films. She is getting very fat anyway.

Stop all that eating Amanda. But, don’t barf it up like you used too. That is gross.

Anyway……no big hits for her. She is on the no no list now.
