Tom Holland to Play Spider-Man in Marvel's New Movie!

Tom Holland has just landed the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel movie!!

Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, said in a statement, “It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Sony’s Amy Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

If you missed it, be sure to catch Tom‘s amazing Spider-Man like stunts, which he posted on his Instagram account over the weekend.

The film is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2017. Jon Watts will direct.

You may recognize Tom, 19, from his 2012 film The Impossible. He’s also been featured in the TV series Wolf Hall.

yay happy for him, he was great in the Impossible and was fantastic as Billy Elliot in the west end

Wow they really pulled the plug on The Amazing Spider-Man didn’t they? Because the last one /only/ made $750 million? How long after this reboot can we expect yet another one? Ridiculous.

  • Casey C

oh. look. yet another spider-man movie. how new. how original. couldn’t it have been a different spiderman than Peter Parker?? what was wrong with a little change? we’ve seen the Peter Parker spiderman ad nauseum. so freaking sick of the reboots and the reboots of the reboots of the same tired films when is there a Black Widow movie? a afar more interesting, tragic character? nope. she barely gets a look in, but spider man? he gets 5 films in 12 years with two separate actors an rebooted again within THREE years of the last lot. for gods sake. move on Marvel.

  • FerCat

Ah, but this time he can also shoot webs from his chin.

  • gradybridges

But the movie sucked and underperformed. Besides the MCU is a big deal now and if you are a Marvel character and not in it you really don’t count.

Oh give the kid a chance, they haven’t released any details of the plot of the film yet, so it may not even be another origins story. They’re rumoured to be bringing him into CA; Civil War too. So let’s all just wait and see. Of course, I think there are plenty other Marvel characters who deserve a stand alone film, and yes, we’ve had a lot of Spidey recently. As always, it it doesn’t appeal, no one is forcing anyone to see it.

  • Sam

did anyone ask for this reboot tho?

  • Chiliebeenie

He looks like he is like 12 not 19.

  • Mayra

What about Dev Patel? He was perfect for the role, this is serious bullsh*t. Nothing special about this kid tbh.

  • Dory Phore

Another British actor as an American superhero. Why?

  • Casey C

that would at least be interesting. i love how they’re going on about how they’re exploring Peter’s teenage years and dealing with being a vigilante hero as a teen, around 15-16 and how thats so new. ummmm, in the last reboot and the one before that Peter was about 16-17 when he got bit, a la canon. so new. so fresh. wow, you’ve reduced his age by a whole year…

  • FerCat

They should at least give us some time to miss him.

  • Bushy

I bet youve based that verdict on nothing whatsoever other than his pic. Dev patel LOL. No.

  • Bushy

    Cause its called ACTING.

  • devvv

HE’S BRITISH!! SPIDER-MAN IS FROM NEW YORK. IT’S LOST AUTHENTICITY. IT’S DIMINISHED YEARS OF COMIC HISTORY…oh wait does that only work when there’s a PoC instead of a white person? Never mind…

  • Jon M’Shulla

Not a reboot. No origin except maybe a 5 minute or less flashback.

  • Jon M’Shulla

If you don’t like it boycott it. I encourage all boycott of Hollywood films. Tom seems good but, Disney sucks a big one, eh?

  • Jon M’Shulla

He is a talented actor and an acrobat. Dev isn’t. But, if you do not like it boycott. Boycott all Hollywood.

  • devvv

    I was being sarcastic?

  • Jon M’Shulla

    Pardonnez moi.

  • Pedro

Yes, the people who wanted Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

  • Pedro

In the comics Peter was bit at age 15.

  • Pedro

Because he gave better screentests than the other american candidates.
