Queen Elizabeth May Be Displaced From Buckingham Palace During Renovations
Queen Elizabeth arrives at the Schloss Bellevue Palace while visiting Berlin, Germany on Wednesday (June 24).
News broke that same day that the 89-year-old royal may have to move out of the famous Buckingham Palace due to a serious need for renovations. The Palace has not been renovated since 1952. Pipes need to be replaced, asbestos needs to be removed, and more, which could total $237 million, the BBC reports.
Sir Alan Reid, keeper of the Privy Purse, said, “Over the coming years, the maintenance of the estate and in particular Buckingham Palace, will present a significant financial challenge. We will continue to work closely with the trustees to ensure that the funding for the royal household reflects that challenge.”
