Darren Criss Apologizes For Caitlyn Jenner Joke During 'Hedwig' Performance

Darren Criss took to Facebook to apologize to Caitlyn Jenner after he was accused of making an insensitive comment.

Earlier this week, the 28-year-old actor joked about the 65-year-old former Olympian’s transition during a Hedwig and the Angry Inch performance by saying, “man, woman, moman, wan, Bruce Jenner, whatever you are.”

After much criticism, Darren wrote on Facebook, “I want to sincerely apologize to Caitlyn Jenner, all transgender people, and anyone who was offended for my words on stage during Tuesday evening’s performance. In no way do the remarks reflect my personal belief system or my support for transgender people.”

He added, “However, I do realize the severity of the comment and the weight that words can carry and for that, I take full responsibility. I commend Caitlyn on her strength and for spreading acceptance around the globe. I have been and remain a proud and unwavering ally of the LGBTQIA community, and will continue to walk alongside my friends on the road to full equality and acceptance.”

I really wish celebrities would stop apologizing for every little thing. It was a joke. Just like all of the black jokes Khloe, Kim, and Kris have made about their creepy black man fetish that they’ve never once apologized for. Caitlyn should be facing a manslaughter charge, instead she’s on the cover of magazines and being praised. Be happy a joke made on Broadway is the toughest problem she’s facing and move on.

The joke was made in character as Hedwig and that is absolutely something Hedwig would say. If every actor apologised for something offensive they said in character they’d be very busy.

No one is above a joke or above a criticism. She is not the Sacred Cow. Plus reality stars are idiots and need PR good or bad. Screw them.

The minority like to play Saint. You can tell what you think about a person, just as long as they’re not a member of a minority. Minorities have to hold on to that Martyr crown.

  • Phil Ryan

He’s playing Hedwig for goodness sake….. Hedwig insults everyone! Stop being so PC. Caitlyn Jenner is staying in the spotlight and raking in the cash. She’s a celebrity and people make fun of celebrities.
