Misty Copeland Named Principal Dancer at American Ballet Theater, Makes History in the Process!
Famous ballet dancer Misty Copeland was just promoted to a female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theater, making her the first African-American woman dancer to hold the position in the prestigious company’s seventy-five year history!
“My fears are that it could be another two decades before another black woman is in the position that I hold with an elite ballet company,” the 32-year-old dancer wrote in her memoir “Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina,” about race in ballet. “That if I don’t rise to principal, people will feel I have failed them.”
Since news broke, fans have been congratulating Misty on Twitter. Big congrats to Misty on this huge accomplishment!
