Ed Sheeran Defends Taylor Swift's VMA Tweets: She's 'Done Nothing Wrong'

Ed Sheeran has spoken out about his views on the Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj back-and-forth regarding 2015 MTV VMA nominations.

“I think everyone knows that Taylor has done nothing wrong in that situation,” the 24-year-old entertainer told The Daily Telegraph of his former tour-mate.

“She didn’t nominate herself for the awards. It’s not her fault. She just made some good videos and people think they’re good,” Ed continued. “I think the Minaj point is a bit redundant, her point is that you have to be skinny and white to get a Video of the Year nomination, but Beyonce’s ‘7/11′ is in there, and that is celebrating the female figure in every form.”

Katy Perry also got in on the action when she called out Taylor in a tweet citing hypocrisy.

He missed Minaj’s point too. Taylor has Swifted him.

  • tbean

Agreed. His point is like saying, “I’m not racist! I have a black friend!”

  • devvv

I was rooting for him!! Guess he’s just like her and didn’t grasp what Nicki was saying at all.

  • The Batman

So he defends the white woman, praising her, while saying Minaj is just an angry black woman playing the race card who doesn’t deserve any praise. Okay screw this guy.

  • Monica Coman

Okay, not. He’s being a good friend, and then Nicki didn’t get the point, because he said BEYONCE was freaking there, and Beyonce’s not white exactly, nor SKINNY, but successful and talented.

  • Mads_22

Oh Ed…please shhhh. I like you. Don’t ruin it.

  • Naynay

Is it a white people kinda attitude to just deflect or twist reality ? like no she’s not wrong for being nominated, it’s cool for her but it’s wrong to speak out on something that’s she’s been doing for a while now over and over again and moreover to think the world revolve around you, when Nicki was talking about a race problem

  • Effy

Here comes her knight in shining armor…Ed is trying SO hard to get out of Taylor’s friend zone and date her. He’d defend her even if she did the most terrible thing.

  • Naynay

You’re not getting the point MTV nominates Beyonce for every work she does because she’s the aliby, like that they can say look Bey is nominated we’re not racist, but when you look at the history of the awards AND at this year alone, Rihanna BBHMM wasn’t nominated at all when it’s one of the best videos this year, Feeling Myself wasn’t nominated at all, and when it comes to video of the year it often goes to a white singer just saying (only 8 black singer have won in the past years and when I think of good videos I essentially think of Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Madonna so there really is a problem)

  • Aoedele

Not surprised he doesn’t get the point. He’s all comfortable in his white privilege.

  • Charb

“woof, woof” Go fetch Taylor Swift’s dog
