The Bachelor's Chris Harrison Slams 'UnREAL': 'It's Terrible'

Chris Harrison, the longtime host of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchises, is speaking out for the first time about Lifetime’s current drama series UnREAL.

The new show gives a fictional behind-the-scenes look at what goes in to making a dating reality show like The Bachelor.

“Really, the main difference that I’ve seen is that people watch The Bachelor,” Chris told Variety. “It’s complete fiction. As much as they would love to jump on our coattails – they were begging for us to talk about it and for people to write about it – at the end of the day, no one is watching. I mean, absolutely nobody is watching that show. Why? It is terrible. It is really terrible.”

Chris did say that he enjoys watching parodies of his show on Saturday Night Live.

“You only do that when you are part of the vernacular. Because if not, you can’t make a joke. It’s a sign of respect,” he continued. “The way that UnREAL took it, it wasn’t a sign of respect. They were trying to take it another direction, but it doesn’t work that way… UnREAL is just a really bad attempt, and they got what they deserved, and that is no one is watching the show.”

UnREAL‘s season finale airs next week and it was already given a season two renewal after hitting ratings highs in July. The show has also gotten critical acclaim and we’ve enjoyed watching the first season!
