The Bachelor's Chris Harrison Slams 'UnREAL': 'It's Terrible'

Chris Harrison, the longtime host of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchises, is speaking out for the first time about Lifetime’s current drama series UnREAL.

The new show gives a fictional behind-the-scenes look at what goes in to making a dating reality show like The Bachelor.

“Really, the main difference that I’ve seen is that people watch The Bachelor,” Chris told Variety. “It’s complete fiction. As much as they would love to jump on our coattails — they were begging for us to talk about it and for people to write about it — at the end of the day, no one is watching. I mean, absolutely nobody is watching that show. Why? It is terrible. It is really terrible.”

Chris did say that he enjoys watching parodies of his show on Saturday Night Live.

“You only do that when you are part of the vernacular. Because if not, you can’t make a joke. It’s a sign of respect,” he continued. “The way that UnREAL took it, it wasn’t a sign of respect. They were trying to take it another direction, but it doesn’t work that way… UnREAL is just a really bad attempt, and they got what they deserved, and that is no one is watching the show.”

UnREAL‘s season finale airs next week and it was already given a season two renewal after hitting ratings highs in July. The show has also gotten critical acclaim and we’ve enjoyed watching the first season!

My favorite show right now! Love it!

  • Kouka Beneat

This is hilarious! He KEEPS saying that “no one watches” the show, whereas it has already been renewed thanks to its HIGH ratings… He shouldn’t take it so personally. This is not a direct attack on The Bachelor franchise, this is just a great show, so take a chill pill Chris.

  • Elizabeth Vidal

Actually its true that no one is watching it, it’s season finale wasn’t even near the top 100 shows on cable for that night.

  • JonG

It’s finale had a .21 rating. Not exactly high ratings. It got renewed because ladybloggers like it, which creates “buzz”

  • Georgie

Its season finale hasn’t aired yet. It airs Monday.

  • Margot Spiller

unreal, It doesn’t sound interesting enough to watch. It looks stupid and boring and a bit of a mess and miss. And I can’t believe it’s getting critical acclaim. The best show ever on TV, besides Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead should be getting more Emmy love. Some of the actors ie. Melissa McBride and Andrew Lincoln should have already won Emmys.

  • Margot Spiller

And I guess you thought the movie “Sisters” was good. that explains.

  • Margot Spiller

I think he knows that, he just thinks it’s crap. And he’s for sure watched it b/c it parodies his show. But probably stopped b/c it wasn’t all that.

  • Margot Spiller

I’m sure they embellish a LOT for dramatic effect. But I wouldn’t seriously think that it’s anymore than mostly fiction,

  • Margot Spiller

    Takes one to know one.

And you probably like Fuller House too.
