Angelina Jolie to Executive Produce 'Breadwinner' Animated Movie

Angelina Jolie Pitt has just signed on to executive produce the upcoming animated film The Breadwinner.

The story, which is adapted from Deborah Ellis‘ young adult novel, is about “Parvana, who disguises herself as a boy to become the breadwinner of the family when her father is unfairly imprisoned. The Breadwinner also showcases culture, history and beauty of Afghanistan,” THR writes.

“Millions of young girls like Parvana are growing up today under oppression or conflict, and helping their families to survive in those conditions. This story is a reminder of the immense value of their contribution” Angelina said in a statement. “I am delighted to be working with a talented team of artists who I know will do justice to the richness, creativity and strength of Afghan culture and to little girls like Parvana.”

The project is slated to be completed in 2017.

Angelina Jolie Pitt Will Exec Produce ‘The Breadwinner’, Animated Film About A Girl And The Taliban

Angelina Jolie Pitt and her Jolie Pas Productions today signed on with Aircraft Pictures, Cartoon Saloon and Melusine Productions for The Breadwinner, an animated feature based on the best-selling young adult novel by Canadian author Deborah Ellis. Nora Twomey (co-director, Oscar-nominee The Secret of Kells) will direct with screen story by Ellis and screenplay by Anita Doron.

It’s the story of Parvana, an Afghani girl living under Taliban rule who disguises herself as a boy to become the breadwinner of the family when her father is unfairly imprisoned. A story of self-empowerment and imagination in the face of oppression, The Breadwinner also celebrates the culture, history and beauty of Afghanistan, according to a statement from the partners. A cut of the film will be produced in Dari in addition to the English-language version.

“Millions of young girls like Parvana are growing up today under oppression or conflict, and helping their families to survive in those conditions,” Jolie Pitt, who will executive produce, said in a release from the producers. “This story is a reminder of the immense value of their contribution. I am delighted to be working with a talented team of artists who I know will do justice to the richness, creativity and strength of Afghan culture and to little girls like Parvana.”

The Breadwinner will be produced by Tomm Moore and Paul Young of the Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea), Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen of Aircraft Pictures and Stephan Roelants of Melusine Productions. Executive producing with Jolie Pitt will be Jehane Noujaim & Karim Amer and Gerry Shirren at Cartoon Saloon. It’s currently casting and in pre-production in advance of an August production start and due for completion in early 2017.

The film was developed with support from Telefilm Canada, the Irish Film Board, the Film Fund Luxembourg, Corus Entertainment, the Harold Greenberg Fund and the Belinda Stronach Foundation.

From the previous thread.. about Lenny’s dress

The wedding dress reveal if there is one will be just like the ring.. she won’t show any pics until she approves them. They are going to be edited up the butt.. Just like she wants to do in print interview. She wants only certain pics released. So it will take time to work with Uncle Terry on what pics get out.. The EASY answer to why no pics have been released.

but here there is not talking about a production ???

    Hi Rose.

  • Passing Through

So Angie’s got another project that she’s going to be an EP on. Looks like she may be branching out helping other people get films set in foreign places off the ground or give them a helping hand with publicity – like Difret. This is definitely not something she’d doing to pay for her lifestyle…cuz there’s even less money in this stuff than what a certain fameho is making these day…

  • Malf

I read on another site that Angie is donating the proceeds from her EP cut to Afghan girls’ schools.

  • toastie postie

    Awesome!

  • Beck

sounds like a really nice project, and I’m excited for Angie to get more and more into producing.

Look at Tacky on the cover of Hello. They made him look like a cartoon character. ROTFLMAO!

    http://imgur.com/Nh3XZVh

    ++++++++++++++++++++++

I was think he looks like the movie version of a Muslim terrorist in a suit. What’s really funny is – taht pictures is what 2-3 years old? They had to go back that far to find one where Ticky didn’t look like a linebacker or a WWF wrestler. Plus…she didn’t even get the full cover – just as we speculated. It’s about 3/4

The caption says there were “laugh as well as tears.” Squigyy wouldn’t have been crying if not for the handcuffs and pepper spray it took to get him to the altar…

  • Passing Through

I’m not surprised by that at all. That’s how she rolls…

  • toastie postie

LOL. PT, you are something else. It takes a lot to get me to laugh out loud. Still chuckling. Guess that’s why there are no wedding pictures. Takes time to photo shop out the cuffs and the runny eyes. Brilliant.

NY DAILY talks about Peps getting screwed. I still think it has something to do with Richardson being the photog but I’ve been wrong before.
    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/confidential/people-magazine-fresh-shot-aniston-theroux-article-1.2321079

    ++++++++++++++++++++

ROTFLMAO! This is really funny – especially since the current Peeps EIC Jess Cagle is admittedly a total hen. I’m not worried though. I have confidence that Peeps will still get an exclusve…possibly in a few weeks…like in exhange for giving Squiggy (probably with Ticky) a cover in late Sept. for TLO’s Oct. premiere. They need to do something to drive up interest in the show. Otherwise this is going to be the last year…

  • Passing Through

Either that or nobody would buy because Pervy took them. I still don’t really see that as being a big deal because they’re not fashion photos…but the stank is upon him…

  • bap

    Angelina is so wonderful.

  • busted

    amazingly perfect..

For a planned wedding it’s a mess. At least that’s how I see it and reading comments on gossip sites, they better move their tushies. People are yawning. Many saying Finally, like they can put the book away and go on to a more interesting book, a nonfiction one this time.
So glad to have put the sci-fi one in the library donation box. Which no one will check out and the library will put in a book sale – what? No one bought it? It’s in pristine condition!

OT – Idiot! I didn’t have to read in the article, to know that the idiot was let go. Too many times I shake my head at the NFL going-ons. I love football, but sometimes I want to just give it up – the watching :0) I might have Linebacker shoulders, like Ja, but my bones are brittle.
The jerk will be lucky if he isn’t charged. Horrible Jet fans are hinting it’s a good thing what he did – saving the team’s season. Yikes!

Haha! Peeps never learns, it isn’t the first time that Ticky & Huvsy burned them. Dumbasses always seem to come back for more torture.
Peeps is working hard to pimp the Tackys’ wedding but no one seems to give a shite not even her 7 hens. LOL.

  • Malf

Thanks for posting the complete press release.

  • busted

Somebody is maybe reading what were were saying. Because quite a few of us said that Peeps got screwed.. hahaha..

  • busted

her fans keep talking about the wrong info in the magazine.. thing is her HAGs were bragging about RDJ and Bullock and all the “Friends” were there. Now it is slowing coming out how so many of the people they were bragging on and on about weren’t ever there. All those A-listers.. WHO? And no mention of anyone in her family being there at all. So HAGS that were all Angie didn’t invite so and…well what about Lenny. No family in sight..ever.

  • Malf

Their lurve is so yawn inducing! They even make a honeymoon in Bora Bora seem boring. How is that possible?! LMAO.

  • busted

Probably all those sheets hanging up all over the place. Nobody is allowed to leave the house and do anything fun. just sit around while LenST take pics that they hide away. Sounds like so so much fun.

  • Malf

Mrs.Tacky is taking a page from Porgie, you find a spouse that is on your level. For her, strictly on the C-D list!

  • Malf

She doesn’t want the natural beauty and view of Bora Bora to compete with her ass & c*och show.

  • Indaylily2

Hello Rose and to everybody who have been so nice in posting great news about the JPs. Just enjoying them all and get updated. Thanks thanks!!!’

  • Erianthe

A version of the film will be produced in Dari in addition to the English-language version.

    — I learn something new every day. I thought Farsi is the official language of Afghanistan. Didn’t know it was Dari.

  • African Queen

Every has been now think that they can produce and direct movie. Talking about Katie Holmes here.

  • Erianthe

Angelina continuing to do great work and forging ahead making her place in the industry not only as writer, director, actor, but also producer. Breadwinner reminds me of another animated film — Persepolis (good film).

  • Malf

I’ll give KH some credit, at least she hustled & made something happen instead of sitting on her ass & waiting for the non-existent offers to come to her.

Never would have thought KH would be able to out hustle Mrs.Tacky but even a former Stepford wife has more game than the Tick. LMAO.

  • toastie postie

    Yes, I liked Persepolis.

OT – Ha! My type of quiz – no wrong answers. Disney quiz – measure of the heart – What’s your Disney Strength.

There’s strong and then there’s Disney strong. Sure, regular strength is measured by how much weight you can bench press, but Disney strength is measured by the size of your heart. So take this quiz to find out whether you have Belle’s courage, Marlin’s perseverance, Nala’s patience or another one of your favorite characters’ best trait:

    http://blogs.disney.com/oh-my-disney/2015/08/09/quiz-whats-your-disney-strength/?cmp=emc|insider|natural|disney-insider|2015-08-11|insider|box5

    I got Belle

Your fears just aren’t as important to you as helping those you love, so you bravely face them everyday. Yeah! I am Toasted…hear me…uh…wait…I am Woman hear me roar – mew. 😻

  • Erianthe

    HA! I got Belle too.

  • African Queen

    She’s like no other.

  • busted

I can’t remember where she was; but on one of the show when Angie was promoting Maleficent she did a quiz about Disney movies. I think she got them all right or missed one. I bet she and Brad have watched every Disney movie..

  • busted

yeah and Lenny said she would die or something if she didn’t get to direct again.. but her TEAM were advising her to wait and make more shitty movies.

  • toastie postie

Being on a high and oooooooooooh so brave, I went down the page & took the movie quotes quiz. Yep, you guessed it. I never learn – I got 10 out of 15 – I always second guess myself. It told me

You got 10 out of 15 right.

Just like Tiana, you’re almost there! Take our ‘90s movie quiz to find out what you should watch right now

I took what Disney 90′s movie should I watch at this moment. Judging the mood I’m in, since there are no wrong answers there. Got The Rescuers.

Not taking anymore, not chancing my luck right now. 😼

  • toastie postie

Was that in Japan or somewhere else? If not I want to see that. The Japan one caught her off guard, I thought. She wasn’t expecting it. Can’t remember what it was about, but it was silly fun.

  • toastie postie

When she gets older and finally doesn’t give a hoot what others think, I could see her being like that snarly, perv director that threw a temper tantrum with Lily Tomlin. Not that she would get any jobs with good actors. I don’t think she could direct. I can see her being bossy, but that isn’t necessary the same thing. Would she even care about her actors? I doubt it.

But then she will probably never stop being a poser or wondering/worrying what others think of her.

  • Malf

Of course, she’ll care about her actors’ weaves. She knows exactly how they should fall into their faces. LOL.
