Ellen Page Confronts Ted Cruz About LGBT Rights (Video)

Ellen Page showed up at the Iowa State Fair on Friday morning (August 21) and grilled GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz about the “persecution of gays in the workplace and LGBT rights.”

The 28-year-old actress is in town filming her Vice Media show Gaycation with Ellen Page and she spoke to Cruz for over five minutes, though he had no clue he was talking to an Oscar-nominated actress.

Ellen said that people are being fired for being gay or trans in today’s workplace.

“Well, what we’re seeing right now, we’re seeing Bible-believing Christians being persecuted for living according to their faith,” Ted responded. Ellen replied by saying, “You’re discriminating against LGBT people.”

This weirdo not even American , she’s Canadian and she’s so proud too about it .

Entitled losers who want to impose their values on a nation they’re not even a citizen of , she can’t vote , has no say but demands American politicians answer to her.

  • box1809

She’s definitely Canadian alright… if she was American she wouldn’t be treating people with respect and caring about the well being of others so much.

  • Julia

God she is such a idiot. Her policy is ‘If I hear something that is relevant, but not to me, I’ll just ignore it.’ The ‘suffering’ of gays? SO relevant. The suffering of others? Who cares?

  • smooshy

That’s right…all us Americans are disrespectful of EVERYONE and don’t care about ANYTHING.

  • smooshy

    I agree.

  • smooshy

shut up. gays need to learn that punishing others because their religion doesn’t accept gaydom is NOT the way to go.

  • gradybridges

Ted Cruz isn’t winning anything. Confront Jeb Bush or anyone else

  • Mercyneal

Ellen Page isn’t even an American citizen. She is a Canadian who is a guest in the US. If she truly wants to make her voice heard, then she needs to become a US citizen.

  • Mercyneal

Stuff and nonsense, sport. I grew up in Canada and then became a US citizen in 1984. I can tell you that Canadians have their fair share of rude and obnoxious people. They are also anti American while at the same time being jealous of them. Very, very happy I became a US citizen. The US is the best country in the world.

He may be a vice president nominee.

  • Mike1288

No way. I foresee rubio (if he doesn’t get the presidential nom), fiorino, and Carson as Possible VP candidates. Ted’s following just isn’t enough.

  • Mike1288

Yeah I don’t think they understand faith and religion. I’m not religious but it’s a conviction and ideology.

  • Shenanigans

    no way, i forsee Trump.

  • JM

Its one thing to not want to hold a gay wedding in a church cause the church will not support it, but it’s another to fire someone because they are gay and your religion doesn’t support it. Why should someone’s beliefs or sexual preferences influence their job performances? It shouldn’t. So why should they be defended for doing something that is CLEARLY wrong?

  • Rachel

US is a silly country. You guys have no healthcare and Obama as your President. So don’t talk. Canada is way better and so are the people.

  • Rachel

I have to agree. Ellen Page is not an American. I don’t think she should be interfering in their Politics. Neither should any Brits or Aussies either. I am Canadian and think American Politics is a waste of time anyways. So stupid and small minded.

  • piddler

Christians have rights also. The hard part is balancing things out for both sides. Evidently Ellen thinks it’s all one sided.

  • Natalie

Ted Cruz is absolutely correct. He’s got my support.

  • Amy

I don’t care if Ellen Page is American, Canadian, or from any other country. She is defending gays on the whole, and asking that they be treated fairly in a country where she now resides. Why shouldn’t she defend them? She’s not a “weirdo”; the weirdos are those brainwashed by these politicians who want to rule the world and tell people how they should live. Her citizenship isn’t the issue, so stop trying to switch the topic at hand. If I was gay–I’d truly despise people like Ted Cruz.

  • JJ

You are delusional and ignorant beyond belief. To the point of embarrassment. Stop speaking about things you know nothing about. It makes you seem less than intelligent and I’m being too kind with that assessment. I’m so sorry you have such an inferiority complex. You poor thing.

  • loverhater

…you know Ted Cruz was born in canada, right?

  • loverhater

any religion that hurts others is evil. discrimination hurts others. if your religion believes in discrimination then your religion believes in hurting others and PROTECTING the right to hurt others. by default, that’s evil.

  • JJ

So according to your brilliant logic, let’s say, and this is purely hypothetical and would not be possible because of Burmese nationality law, Angelina Jolie, who recently visited Myitkyina township in Kachin state, as an activist and a humanitarian, needs to become a citizen of Burma to make her voice heard? Oh really. Do you see where I’m going with this?

You do not have to be a citizen of the United States to question policies or politicians you disagree with. If a person believes an injustice is being committed they have every right to question and to protest, if they wish, regardless of their citizenship. And it’s unfair and ignorant to dismiss Ellen as just a guest of the US, when in fact she has lived here for many years and is considered a resident.

  • JJ

    Exactly and well said.

  • piddler

So you believe that the LGBT community has rights, but people who follow the Christian Religion are bigots? Don’t you realize that failure to acknowledge their rights puts the LGBT community the same label?

  • piddler

So LGBT members discriminate according to a persons religion? If they can’t accept that both sides of the issue have rights, they can receive the same label.

  • Sim

I’m actually Canadian , so stop being a hypocrite.

One thing Candians especially liberals like Ellen Page feel so freely being is Anti American , think their so superior to the U.S., blaming every problem in the world on the US, while never admitting how much they benefit from having America as a neighbour.

Like this loser who not only works in U.S, for better money and a career but also lives there, because she likes it better then pretends to be so proud be Canadian.

And if some b-list American actor tryed to impose themselves in a Canadian election , Canadians with Elle Page being the first would tell them to fu-K off and mind their own business.

  • Sim

To American parent so what’s your point .

Americans who work all over the world have kids in foreign countries, doesn’t make their children not American, he went to elementary and high school in Texas and graduated from Princton and Harvard.

  • Curt Noydb

Why is it gay men are known for for their hygiene and meticulous attention to theirt appearance but lesbians always look sleazy?

  • Sim

Well being of others , you mean people like her.

And why does she think she has the right to impose herself on American Presidential election or debate ( which she shouldn’t , like watching box of rocks questioning a member of Mensa , slick away nobody )

There over 200 countries in the world with barely 20 giveing any rights to gays why doesn’t she go her impose herself where it’s really needed instead the US which has every law under sun protecting the rights of gays , because she knows no other country would treat her so well while she acts like entitled brat.

So who’s really treating whom with respect , I don’t think she could even walk up a Canadian candidate for Prime Minister ask whatever she wanted, and having them be so polite and answer her like Ted Cruz just did,

  • occupymovementajoke

Question if your company has a Known policy not to hire LGBT people because of their religious beliefs and a LGBT person lies to get the job and later comes as gay, shouldn’t the employer have the right to fire them?

  • Conte435

Your the idiot Angelina works in many countries around world because she does a movie in a country she doesn’t act like she entitled to get involve in their political elections or policies.

She doesn’t even get involved in American elections and she’s American, she purposely makes herself a political.

She works for the UN on behalf of refugees, she visits refugee camps around the world, that are displaced because war or natural disaster, she speaks only about the plight of refugees , she never gets involved in the politics of a country, besides get invloved in inner political party platforms.

Who are you to decide what’s just or unjust, especalllly of a country you aren’t a citizen of.

Ellen Page can go the Middle East , African continent , or Asia where gays have no rights instead of the U.S, where gays have as many rights as they do in Canada

…. O but she wouldn’t because she would be told she doesn’t have the right or moral authority to impose her beliefs on other cultures, funny she would accept that when theiy’re not the same colour as her , guess she doesn’t see them as human like her.

  • Conte435

    1. She’s Canadian, so who cares what she thinks. 2. She’s noted for Juno (2007) and Inception (2010), so basically, being gay has been her main claim to fame for the past 6 years. 3. This stinks of a publicity stunt to get free coverage of her latest HBO soon-to-be flop. And finally, 4. She’s Canadian, so who cares what she thinks.

  • Amber

    Can she even VOTE?!?

  • nakedtruth

    ….he’s still canadian…..and you’re bitching about how she’s canadian….

  • nakedtruth

    equality isn’t one sided.

  • nakedtruth

    “your the idiot”

    priceless.

  • nakedtruth

if you refused to hire a black person at your business due to ‘religious beliefs’ would that be ok?

  • nakedtruth

When you believe something that actively causes somebody else emotional distress and pain…….that sentiment is the opposite of what an all-loving god preaches. matter of fact, that sentiment is more aligned with evil and satan than god.

  • Natalie

So then, is Brad and Angelina’s first born daughter Shiloh ‘African’ and not American, because she’s born in Namibia? Although she’s never actually even lived there? Is Tim Tebow a Filipino?? Who’s parents were Christian missionaries in the Philippines and he was born there…

Only an idiot, like yourself, doesn’t know the difference between your and you’re. You’re a moron and you’re welcome.

It amazes me, not really, that the point I was trying to make, that a five year old could understand, went completely over your empty head. Good luck with that. Angelina does get involved, and has meetings and she will ask questions, just like Ellen, of foreign political leaders and government officials. Do your research. Whether she does that publicly or behind closed doors is irreverent. Politics are involved. She has been very public in regards to strongly encouraging foreign countries to change and improve their sex trafficking laws. And asking a politician a question is not getting involved in politics; It’s asking a question. Stick to what you know, which is absolutely nothing.

Her citizenship is irrelevant. She’s a long time resident, not a guest, and she pays taxes and she has every right to ask a question of a politician, a politician who wants to lead the country that she resides in, whether you like it or not. Your problem with her has nothing to do with her citizenship but everything to do with the question she asked and the topic she broached. And that is your sad agenda.

So it’s OK for LGBT people to cause people emotional distress?
You are ignoring the issue. It’s going to take compromise on both sides. No one is going to get every thing they want.
