Broadway Actor Kyle Jean-Baptiste Dies at 21 After Tragic Fall

Kyle Jean-Baptiste has sadly passed away at age 21 after tragically falling off his mom’s fire escape.

The young actor had been starring in the Broadway production of Les Miserables as an ensemble member and an understudy to Jean Valjean, the role Hugh Jackman played in the movie.

Kyle made history just weeks ago when he became the youngest person and also the first African-American man to play Jean Valjean on Broadway.

“The entire Les Miserables family is shocked and devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Kyle, a remarkable young talent and tremendous person who made magic – and history – in his Broadway debut,” a rep for the show told BroadwayWorld.com in a statement. “We send our deepest condolences to his family and ask that you respect their privacy in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Just a couple weeks ago, Kyle did an impromptu performance of the show’s song “The Confrontation” with Lin-Manuel Miranda. Watch that below:

Sometimes people have accidents for no good reason. That’s life!

  • Martha Carla

I fell like that once. It happens so fast and you hit the ground so suddenly. You have no control over your descent and many people die. I was lucky. I hit my head and my whole right side but only one bone broke. I see how his accident could happen in an instant. People, stay off of your roofs. Hire a professional to do work up there.

People use fire escaped like stairways in NYC. It’s a very common practice.

What kind of stupid question is that? His family, the police and the hospitals have already accepted his fall as an accident.
