Emma Thompson Constructs Giant Polar Bear Statue to Protest Shell's Arctic Drilling
Emma Thompson and her fellow protesters construct a giant polar bear outside of the Shell building to protest Arctic drilling on Wednesday (September 2) in London, England.
The 56-year-old actress also helped place giant paw print stickers on the outside of the building. The stickers contain the names of seven million people who signed up to support the movement.
In addition, the polar bear statue is just feet away from the front entrance to the building and will remain there until Shell’s drilling window ends later in the month.
“Shell haven’t been listening. Shell have ignored the science. They want to drill in the Arctic up to the year 2030. It seems to me a monumental act of selfishness and greed. We cannot go on extracting oil in the way that we have,” Emma said about the Arctic’s fragile environment. She’s also urging people to “get the f*ck involved” in the movement.
