Emily Blunt Apologizes for 'Offhand Joke' After Becoming an American Citizen
Emily Blunt gets together with her co-stars Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro at the Academy screening of their latest film Sicario at the New York Institute of Technology on Wednesday (September 16) in New York City.
The three stars were joined at the event by cinematographer Roger Deakins and director Denis Villeneuve before making their way to the AOL Studios to attend their AOL BUILD Speaker Series panel for the upcoming flick, which hits theaters on Friday (October 2)!
Emily recently was blasted by Republicans after she joked about making a “terrible mistake” by becoming an American citizen following the recent debate. She later apologized in a new interview.
“It was so not the intention to hurt anybody or cause any offense, so I really apologize to those that I caused offense,” Emily said (via Us Weekly). “It was just an offhand joke. I think I’ll probably leave the political jokes to late night or something.”
FYI: Emily is wearing a Sachin & Babi halo tee, Rebecca Minkoff pants, Balenciaga shoes, and Jennifer Meyer jewelry at the screening. She is wearing a black Roksanda Ilincic dress, Balenciaga shoes, and Jennifer Meyer jewelry at the AOL panel.
