Anyone who has followed Nancy knows she really is an advocate for women’s rights. She was pissed earlier in the evening because daytime actors pay the same union dues as nighttime actors yet don’t get as good health insurance and other benefits. I think she was just in a pissy mood and it carried into what she said. But she really isn’t a racist.

  • sky

How in the hell would she know what it is like to be discriminated against….you have nice hair and the colour of your skins is white. I don’t care y u were pissed but here opinion was ignorant and unnecessary. Until u know what it’s like to be black in America….u don’t get to have this opinion.

  • CeeKrativ

It’s coz that idiot is racist and intolerant. She always was.

  • Anon2

Well, maybe Matt Damon has figured it all out by now.

  • SquidBillie

She can say whatever she wants, it’s a free speech country. Everyone is so overly sensitive that it’s nauseating. Don’t bother responding, I won’t be reading it.

  • SquidBillie

How the hell would you know. Many women are discriminated against in Hollywood, not just blacks. BTW, there ARE other minorities in this country, too. And YOU don’t get to tell other people what to do. She has free speech, and she can express her opinion if she wants.

  • DEADP00L

What a $#@!%^&^% (unt. These people have nothing constructive to say at all they just walk around thinking they’re reactionary mouth farts are something enlightening.

Your jobs are to play pretend for a living. STOP thinking you know anything about real life in your gated communities that don’t even have real people in them.

Out here people are shot for being unworthy. People are occupied and kept from self determination in the name of ‘security’. Out here in the real world we are marginalized for looking, worshiping or sounding different.

You Hollywood dont suffer anything – you enable suffering.

    Stupid old Hollywood.

  • Arrow 12

Was it really worth the backlash she is getting? Yes she can say whatever she wants, whenever she wants. I never said she couldn’t. In some situations it’s just not worth it. Use your better judgment. She had to know she was going to get this reaction. She just made herself look ignorant.

  • Soncie22

    Silence is golden!

  • FIRSTLINE

Viola Davis is African, and Africans in America have the special immigration status given to them by The US Government they call “Affirmative Action” which gets them free dibs on jobs they are otherwise monstrously incapable of doing. This also extends to Obama and all of the members and supporters of the Democratic Party, of course.

She doesn’t look racist, she just looks stupid. Probably because twitter isn’t the best place to express a complete viewpoint.

  • Arrow 12

    In this case yes.

    I do thanks:)

  • Arrow 12

Wow you are totally racist. That was horrible comment. Again this is why people should keep their comments to themselves. Thank you for making yourself a prime example. Have a great Monday!!!

  • blosnet

Next time just shut it Nancy. Worry about how old u look acting next to William Devry on GH.

  • Mental Floss

Viola Davis is the first Black woman in a leading role to win an Emmy. The Emmy has been around since 1949.
I don’t believe Nancy is a racist; however, given the climate of what is racist and what is not, she should not have tweeted anything, but “Congratulations” if anything.
Sometimes it’s best not to SAY what we THINK.

  • CeeKrativ

Hey, it’s a karma pic for someone! LOL

  • Mental Floss

“You people?” Ah, a bit insensitive, don’t you think? And it doesn’t to which race it’s applied. In my opinion, it’s insensitive.

  • Medicine-is-My-Game

Grahn shouldn’t have apologized, she has every right to voice her opinions. The public was just being hyper-reactive to anything she said, instead of considering the logic behind her statements.

  • Mental Floss

    You jest, right?
When did Viola Davis become an African? As far as what I have read, she is American, born in South Carolina.

  • MG

“The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is simply opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there,” she said. I think that covers a number of other minorities. Your outrage is unjustified, and appears to be more about a black person calling out racial discrimination.

  • devvv

And white people have pale skin, which gets them free dibs on things like living without the fear of being shot by police, not being racially profiled and gives them more money for doing the same job as all POC. And before we talk about unfit politicians, let’s look at the last republican president and the current front runner for next year…

I don’t even know who this person is. Why people care what she thinks? Just let her be.

  • MG

She didn’t HAVE to apologize. She CHOSE to.

And you’re correct. She has every right to voice her opinion, however wrong it may be. But keep this in mind: The right to voice one’s opinion does not mean that they or their statement gets sheltered from scrutiny or that the speaker is free from consequence. Folks like to talk about free speech — and then want to silence the criticism to the idea or statement. The public that you refer to as “hyper-reactive” — they too have the same right to voice their opinion.

  • Will

And they never address the huge problems in their own community everything from rap music that promotes rape and murder, to the huge amount of crime they seem entitled to commit because slavery once existed. Violence against everyone else is a joke buy violence against them is worse then anything.

  • deusexmachina

Angry white jealous talentless white people. HOW’S THAT FOR FREE SPEECH

  • Ann Darton

Listen at Donald Trump racists idiot. I think they only have problems with your kind, sorry a$$ racists

  • Ann Darton

    Bravo to Viola Davis.

  • KA

Yeah, those Bundy Ranchers and Oath Keepers ARE a bunch of uncivilized beasts!

  • KA

What do you mean by “nice” hair?

  • KA

When did you conflate slavery and immigration status? Boy, there’s nothing funnier than angry white people.

  • Gina

She can say what she wants, but shouldn’t be surprised when people respond to her the way they want. Freedom of speech goes both ways.

  • Gina

Far be it for us to have a problem with racists, bigots and losers like yourself.

  • Gina

Women of color are discriminated against more than white women. Thus, they have two strikes against them in that regard. Nancy’s comments and quite frankly your comment only speaks to white feminism, which is flawed. You can’t ignore the racial inequalities within the feminist structure. She has the right to free speech, but so do those who disagree with her.

  • dede

and what was the logic exactly?????

  • jane

every celebrity should have two accounts on all social media. one for their image and the second as some anonymous name they can post under and say any dumb things they want w/fear of backlash or ruining their image.

  • Mrs. Freeze

I bet Nancy really regrets drinking that second bottle of wine.

  • Mrs. Freeze

    …bitter, party for one….
