Claire Danes Discusses Controversial Billy Crudup Scandal & Reveals If They're Still Friends

Claire Danes arrives at SiriusXM studios for an interview on the windy Monday (October 5) in New York City.

The 36-year-old Homeland star did an interview with Howard Stern, and he asked her about her very controversial relationship with Billy Crudup. Billy left his pregnant girlfriend of eight years Mary Louise Parker to be with Claire back in 2003.

“I was just in love with him,” Claire said of Billy, 47. “And needed to explore that and I was 24… I didn’t quite know what those consequences would be.”

“That was a scary thing,” Claire continued about the backlash she received. “That was really hard. I didn’t know how to not do that. It’s OK. I went through it. We’re friendly — we’re friends.”

Claire and Billy broke up in 2006. She is now married to Hugh Dancy and they have one son named Cyrus.

FYI: Claire is wearing an A.L.C. dress and Kurt Geiger pumps.

    ehh load of b.s.

My So Called Life and Homeland are two of my favorite shows of all time, but I have to roll my eyes at her excuses. 24 is old enough to know what the consequences would be. I’d respect her more if she just said “I was being a selfish jerk, and so was he” because at least that’s the truth.

  • mandyz

Her response is really self-centered and narcissistic. Didn’t Hugh Dancy leave his partner to be with Claire too? I wonder how enlightened she’d feel years later on if Hugh leaves her for a young woman.

  • SquidBillie

She is a self-centered, COLD, b i t c h. I never liked her. She doesn’t show any empathy to Parker at all. It’s all about HER.

  • Parisjok

cold hearted ugly skank. he would not marry her if they were that much in love he would have

Oh wow! Since when everybody became the Pope in order to judge everything? and even if you are the Pope, you have NO right in talking about Claire that way. You all have to remember that Claire is an actress, and she has to be respected for what she does with her career more than her private love life that is her bussiness. Was it bad what she did? Probably, but it’s nobody’s bussiness. Suddenly everyone is a mayor Parker fan? oh come on! give me a break. Of course it is disgusting knowing that Crudup left her pregnant couple in order to pursue another relationship but that’s a PRIVATE THEME. Claire doesn’t talk about the thing way too much because she wants to avoid the public eye and that’s it.
And even if you are not pleased with what she does in her private life, you should know that now she’s a mother and a wife. Everything you say about is mean and evil and doesn’t make you a better person for accusing her.

  • Jedaqia

Simon Cowell got his friend’s wife pregnant… nobody seems to give a shit. I guess it depends whether you have a dick or a vagina.

  • Alexander Mohr

No one is surprised when an asshole like Simon does a bad thing, they expect it. But they are offended when a seemingly good person messes up.

I am very biased. I have loved Claire Danes since I was 14. It’s really complex. I think she is a very complicated woman. I just saw so much depth in her at 14, and I know that she devoted her life to her work and school. (Yale Graduate). I know it doesn’t mean much to some, but to me. I think she deserves to be given some slack. I can’t turn my back on someone whose art, changed my life, saved my life. At, such a young age. Child stars, certain child stars to me, especially from the 90′s era, hold a special place in my heart! Sincerely, a FAN!!!! I named my cat C.D. for god’s sake. I was obsessed!!

You don’t have to be the Pope to know how to JUDGE people in order to know who you do and do not want to associate with. We are SUPPOSED to do that; we judge the character of people so that we will know who we want to be our friends; who we want to date; who we want to work with; and so on. You wouldn’t pick any old loser off the street to be your mate and say “well, he’s a convicted felon, but who am I to judge?” That’s ridiculous. That is called HAVING GOOD JUDGEMENT; NOT being judgmental.

  • Jay Last

She is “a very complicated woman” in the same way Sesame Street is a very complicated TV program.

  • someone

Oh wait, I’m in front of Descartes and haven’t realized it? Nothing what you said makes any sense. I’m saying that is nobody’s bussiness what she does with her private life, the same people that are judging her love life and her mistakes in that part are the same that will talk about her family and that sweetheart, that doesn’t make you a better person. You should judge Claire for her professional career and her public life, what she does behind the doors it’s her problem.

  • someone

I think the exact same way, I’m interested in Claire as a professional and what she brings to the community with her acting skills. She’s a terrific actress and a wise professional. Whatever she does in her private life is her private bussiness. I really don’t get why people are making such a big deal of something that is her bad, nobody knows the story of every single person who writes judgmental comments and certainly you can’t say that your life is so pure that you can comment on someone elses mistakes.

  • Francesca Simoni

I never liked her.. she seems so cold!

Billy Crudup was good in Dedication, where he played the writer of childrens books. I think he could have avoided The Good Shepherd and Watchmen at least for the sake of the audience. From an actors perspective they were probably interesting jobs to work in some complete and total fiction.

We “should?” Bossy much? This is a GOSSIP website, preachy one. If you don’t like the comments, don’t come here. ALL celebs get gossiped about, not just your precious Claire. You must be some relative of hers.

The Good Shepherd wasn’t fiction, do your homework.

Hey fella, no need to insult. What happened to you? I bet you get into your sofa to do marathons of Claire’s movies/shows and then you come here to insult people as they’re going to care. I admire Claire’s career and as far as ‘gossip’ as this gets I have my opinion. Peace, xoxo.

24 is TOTALLY old enough. If she’d been like 17 or so, that
excuse would be fine, but when you’re 24 and the guy your persuing has a
long-term gf who is pregnant, you can freaking see as clear as day what
the consequences are FFS. she was 24 not a child. SHe sounds like a selfish, self-obsessed and self-interested idiot – I was in love with him and needed to explore it’. No you didn’t. you needed to think ‘huh, he’s with someone, she’s pregnant, i have no right to explore this.’ selfish brat

The Good Shepherd was complete, total and unabashed fiction. I AM the homework. YOU need to go to school and STAY in it, Guardian, and reserve your comments on American reality. Neither CIA nor American Intelligence had any origin remotely resembling that complete and total fictional mess. Time for school for you, if you have one by now.

  • REAL LIFE MATTERS

The Good Shepherd was a completely made-up fictional disaster movie with a completely made-up fictional “history” of The CIA created from scratch with no existing real life analogies of any notable consequence and merit. America will never disclose any such histories of American Intelligence operations to any public, let alone imported NYLAWood media entities, including Robert DeNiro. You need to stop getting yourself schooled by Wikipedia and Quora and start thinking good and hard about getting yourself into a real school. Time is of the essence, as you say.

SquidBillie is finding out that a real education in real life in the real world is a whole lot different than a fictional media junk. SquidBillie may have to free up a couple of arms to read all those heavy books and to put them down again.

  • DrawbarOrganTrio

Free those arms, SquidBillie. Fictional entities don’t resemble how things happened and work in the real existing universe. Certainly not in a universe that doesn’t publicize anything to SquidBillie and Robert DeNiro and anyone else of any factual substance and value. Classes begin tomorrow morning, SquidBillie. Don’t be late or you’ll miss many of the best parts that can help you out.
