Daniel Craig Visits Cyprus for Role as UN Global Advocate

Daniel Craig is given a first-hand look at an active minefield during a visit to Cyprus on Tuesday (October 13).

The 47-year-old actor visited the country as his first visit for his role as the United Nations Global Advocate for the Elimination of Mines and Explosive Hazards.

“Witnessing the potential impact that mines can have on people and communities, years after the end of conflict, brings home the humanitarian importance of the UN’s de-mining efforts in Cyprus,” Daniel said.

Daniel praised the work of UN peacekeepers, who have been doing the risky task of manual demining and explosive ordnance disposal.

“For these peacekeepers to take their expertise, gleaned over the last 40 years in Cambodia, and make it available to the people of Cyprus, half-way around the world, is truly inspiring,” Daniel added.
