Jeremy Renner's Rep Clarifies His Wage Equality Comments

Jeremy Renner‘s rep is speaking out to clarify the comments that he made about it not being his “job” to help women achieve equal pay in Hollywood.

“That’s not my job,” the 44-year-old American Hustle actor previously said. “I don’t know contracts and money and all that sort of stuff. I’m a performer and I know human behavior. When it comes to that sort of stuff I let other people deal with that. I do what I’m good at, that’s what I focus on.”

“The context was that he is all for women or anyone having salary equality but that’s someone else’s job to handle and not his,” Jeremy‘s rep told about the comments.

“He is most supportive but doesn’t involve himself in those conversations so when asked he was basically saying that,” the rep added.

A forced insincere apology/clarification by a celebrity for saying something that wasn’t wrong. And once again gossip bloggers win.

Seriously. How the heck is it that the wage disputes between an 8 million dollar actor and a 12 million dollar actor is even something regular people care about? Yet here we are with this gossip led culture trying to make people choose sides as if wage equality in film will somehow impact wage inequality among the normal jobs that people in the world struggle with. These are rich people problems, but because JLaw is idolized by gossip publishers then somehow its all “OMG, how could that evil actor Jeremy Renner be so selfish.”

Renner isn’t wrong. You do a job. You get paid. It isn’t his job (or ours) to care about how unfairly Jennifer Lawrence is being paid.

If you read the interview you will see that what he said was taken out of context. Don’t be an idiot, please.

  • Guest

Do not be rude. I am not an idiot. He could have clarified his own statement. Instead he required the services of a PR rep. Which equates to a non-apology in my opinion.

  • Rose Ryan

He had nothing to apologize for, nor did his rep. apologize. Most celebrities have PR people on retainer, why shouldn’t they do their job? Hollywood folks are not the average Joe who is trying to get the minimum wage increased. It’s not up to someone else to fight their pay equity battles, nor do the studios have an obligation to pay women the same as men. It’s up to each of them to decide their own worth and fight their own battles. Besides, isn’t that the job of their agents? That’s not another actor’s job or business.

One thing to consider about Lawrence’s adult career.

    Bradley Cooper
    Amy Adams
    Christian Bale
    Michael Fassbender

Let’s be honest about Jennifer Lawrence’s talent. she NEEDS these “overpayed” costars more than they need her.

Without these opportunities to work with such talent then Jennifer Lawrence is just another bland actor who can fake cry on command in a sea of bland actors who are crying for real.
