Josh Hutcherson Thinks Jennifer Lawrence's Wage Gap Essay Is 'Great'

Josh Hutcherson joins filmmaker Ron Howard and Jena Malone on the red carpet for the premiere of The Rusted at AOL Build on Thursday night (October 22) in New York City.

The 23-year-old actor was the producer behind Canon’s Project Imagination: The Trailer — and you can now watch the film online at imagination.usa.canon.com.

Speaking with MTV recently, Josh opened up about how proud he was to read Jennifer Lawrence‘s recent essay on the wage gap in Hollywood.

“I was a little late to read it. Someone was like, ’did you read that thing about Jen?’ and I was like, ’No? What?’ Because I’m not on social things, or whatever. To even have to say the words ’women’s pay’ sounds so backwards and f***** up and not modern in any way, shape or form. And so for Jen to use her platform to speak about it in her classic Jen way, just blunt, saying what she thinks, I think it’s great,” he shared.

Josh added, “I’m really proud of her, and happy. She’s always been a little gun-shy… she’s always said what she thinks, but as far as tackling issues, she’s never really stepped up to do that. It’s nice to see her now taking that step, being progressive, and using her voice not just to make people laugh.”

    I think some of that is marketing myth just to hype her value. Would she really be so whiny if she was paid even half the amount they say she gets?

    There are a lot machinations behind the JLaw brand and she’s just the face, She may have signed a none disclosure agreement so she can’t give real numbers so she’s using other means to make her case.

    There are so many smokes and mirrors in Hollyweird. So are you saying that people just do things for her through her? That it’s all a big lie and that some actors are just brands. so many shady things going on

    It’s very telling how her sudden rise coincided with her casting on several big-budget films. There was hardly anytime for her to earn real acting accolades the way veterans do. And her performance in Silver Lining was dismal and flat out overacting amateurist at best. She could not have won it without powerful backers.
    Oscar winning actress fronting a film is a marketing bonanza. But the insiders know the real score. Is why she isn’t paid as much. Fox, Sony and LionsGate practically owns the JLaw brand. She never works outside these studios.

    It is true that everything came very quick, a bit too fast, so it makes total sense when you say that there is a lot of backing behind it and other powerful people pushing it. In that case, i wonder what kind of brand they sell through those actors. So she is paid more but says she is paid less, strange

    The point is to create an in house talent that they can control and not have to negotiate with independent ones. No sudden pay re-negotiations for successful franchises or have them unavailable for studio projects. This way they basically have a glorified employee. The money they save goes to marketing the star’s brand recognition.

    If a talent doesn’t go outside a specific group of studios, they’re likely to be in house. E. Stone appears to be one also.

    The absence of large or numerous property purchases is also telling.

    So that basically makes her a puppet or something. If she’s like a tool I wonder if they promote bad things through her. Hollyweird seems to have a very strange agenda with some of their stars. DiCaprio is also some kind of brand.

    Just business really. But the level of media manipulation gives me pause. People spoon fed to idolize people that they shouldn’t.

    If DiCaprio ever were, he’d already moved on to be his own brand.

    It is true that they want others to worship them, and it all seems to be a creation. They invent things and hide other things through them. DiCaprio looks like a tool and his image and brand is kinda shady. I don’t know how these people accept to be apart of that.
