Ryan Reynolds' Father James Passes Away After Battling Parkinson's Disease

Ryan Reynolds just shared some sad news on Twitter – his father has passed away.

“RIP Pops. James C. Reynolds. 1941-2015,” the 39-year-old actor tweeted. He also added a link to Michael J. Fox‘s website which aids Parkinson’s disease research. “If possible, please donate/support,” Ryan added.

Ryan revealed his dad had been battling Parkinson’s last year in an interview on the Today show.

“[My father] comes from a pretty prideful generation. And he doesn’t really talk about it too much. But, he’s maybe said it once or twice out loud,” Ryan said. “I think one of the interesting things about having a family member who’s diagnosed with this particular disease, who isn’t really engaging in an active fight against it, it kind of galvanized everybody else to seek resources. And for us, in a strange way, it’s really kind of brought us together.”

According to the Parkinson’s disease information site, “Parkinson’s disease itself is not fatal. However, complications from the disease are serious; the Center for Disease Control rated complications from PD as the 14th top cause of death in the United States.”

Our thoughts are with Ryan, his wife Blake Lively, and their entire family during this time. We send our deep condolences.
