Keira Knightley Reveals Why She Took a Pay Cut to Do Theater

Keira Knightley bundles up while taking a stroll around town on Sunday afternoon (November 1) in New York City.

The 30-year-old actress is currently starring on Broadway in the new production of the play Therese Raquin and she recently opened up to THR about why she took a pay cut to be in the show.

“It’s very rare that I get offered interesting roles; there are very, very few out there for women,” Keira said. “And when something like this comes along, you go, ‘I can sink my teeth into it and not just be the supportive girlfriend or wife,’ which can get rather boring.”

Keira is reportedly being paid the scale rate of $1,300 a week for her work.

Only actors who are good at acting can dare to do theatre. Not only she is a good actor, but she wants to improve. Big thumbs up from me.

Much respect for her to do a job that pays a “normal” person’s wage. Although I doubt the money is barely a factor for her. Theatre does cut the wheat from the chaff. Former America’s Sweetheart Julia Roberts tried it and was eaten alive by the critics.

That is not true. It’s actors with confidence too. I mean Dianna Agron did it, and she was eaten alive by the critiics like Miss.Roberts. You don’t have to be a great actor to do theatre. You have to be a great actor if you do theatre and get critics raving. I believe critics are only needed in the theatre.

she could work for nothing. she’s worth tens of millions of bucks.

theater isn’t suppose to be about pay it’s supposed to be about connecting with a live audience. many times when an older star does theater and is derided by the critics it’s because the critics are jealous most theaters on Broadway hold from 1.250- 3.500 people per performance though some regional theaters hold less than 600 per performance as for example the Westport Country Playhouse holds only 578 people per show but still draws big name stars to perform there for shows and fundraisers Julia Roberts Angela Lansbury Marissa Tomei Bernadette Peters and Robert Redford among the illustrious list. they also screen films as charitable fundraisers notably for the serious fun network camps

I really respect and would love to watch theaters. Too bad I live in Asia though

A lousy movie actor would never dare to do theatre because it takes them many takes to get it right on screen, there’s only one take in theatre.
