Rooney Mara Not Returning to 'Dragon Tattoo' Series, Alicia Vikander Eyed to Replace Her

Rooney Mara is not going to return to the Dragon Tattoo series for the upcoming The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Wrap reports.

The 30-year-old actress’ co-star Daniel Craig and director David Fincher are also not set to return. Sony is eyeing Alicia Vikander to take over the iconic role in the late Stieg Larsson adaptations.

The studio was at first planning to take on The Girl Who Played With Fire, but they decided to do Spider’s Web. Fire will reportedly come later on.

Rooney was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 for her portrayal of Lisbeth in the series.

there is no reason to make an English version of this movie..(that’s why the first one bomb so hard!!) the Swedish (original) one is good the way it is. a hollywood version will never be as good!

Why on earth would they choose that book?! It’s not even written by Larsson and it’s really bad. Not at all of the same quality that the books written by Larsson was!

And I don’t understand why they have to make an English version, tbh. The swedish ones with Noomi Rapace was much better than the american one!
Unless they are considrering making a swedish one, and that’s why Vikander is being mentioned. Find it hard to believe, but one can hope!

The American film was made for $90 million approximately. It made $232.6 million. With how many movies that straight up lose tens of millions of dollars, it’s hard to justify calling a movie that profits that much a bomb. Sounds like someone has a bias…
