Rose McGowan Slams Caitlyn Jenner in Open Letter: 'You Do Not Understand What Being a Woman Is All About'

Rose McGowan is slamming Caitlyn Jenner for her remarks that the “hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear” during her Glamour Women of the Year Awards acceptance speech.

“Caitlyn Jenner you do not understand what being a woman is about at all. You want to be a woman and stand with us- well learn us. We are more than deciding what to wear. We are more than the stereotypes foisted upon us by people like you. You’re a woman now? Well f—king learn that we have had a VERY different experience than your life of male privilege,” the 42-year-old actress and director wrote in a Facebook post, which has since been deleted. “Woman of the year? No, not until you wake up and join the fight. Being a woman comes with a lot of baggage. The weight of unequal history. You’d do well to learn it. You’d do well to wake up. Woman of the year? Not by a long f—king shot.”

Later, Rose added, “Let me amend this by saying I’m happy for what she’s doing visibility wise for the trans community, and I’m happy she’s living her truth, but comments like hers have consequences for other women. How we are perceived, what our values are, and leads to more stereotyping. If you know you are going to be speaking to media about being a woman, maybe come to understand our struggles.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Rose McGowan’s open letter to Caitlyn Jenner??

    No doubt

  • MAXXX

this caitlyn jenner shit is getting overrated.

  • MollyBD

She’s right, so why would she delete her comment?

  • Poison Ivy

All this Rose McGowan said is true. Caitlyn never had the experience growing up as a girl and then woman, so she does not know of what women go through physically and emotionally and how we are treated by society. She acts with a self entitlement typical of men if you ask me, which is what she is actually, considering she has a male brain and if the truth be know, probably still has a ding-a-ling, which makes Woman of the Year so stupid IMO.

  • Jay

Yes, I keep seeing this especially from trans women. Caitlyn is brave and I commend her for owning her truth, but she doesn’t represent trans women or any other woman. She’s made that clear from the silly stuff she’s said and her dated and rigid views. We’ve put her on a pedestal she shouldn’t be on and I don’t think she even wants to be on.

  • Mayra

Pretty sure her rep made her do it.

  • cobten

Why is Caitlyn referred to as woman when her kids call her Dad?

  • Will

So true, it’s a man playing dress up.

  • Baseliner

typical of white men. try being a black man for a day and then get back to me.

  • disqus_xxwDaBtW3O

Rose McGowan spoke the truth. For Caitlyn Jenner, it’s all been about the external fluff – what she is wearing, how she looks, etc.

  • toastie postie

What a stupid thing to say. Woman? More like a man speaking out his arrogant attitude towards women. Choosing what to wear? Tell that to women who wonder how they are going to feed their children. Tell that to a woman who does twice the work that her co-worker, male, yet gets less pay.

    What a shallow person.

  • VanityInsecurity

Women have been suppressed for years.. we have been the real enslaved humans for all eternity now.. how much longer do women have to fight for equality? When born women have to word 5x as hard than any man in everything … that is who the woman of the year award should go to not some transexual who just learned how to put on lipstick.

  • Queen Serafina

McGowan has a point, but considering the trans hate that this is bringing to the surface, I’d say her own comments were irresponsible. Does McGowan know the struggle of being trans? I’m pretty sure they live with some heavy burdens themselves.

  • LemmeSplain

“Trans hate?” Try WOMAN hate. There is a very real, worldwide hatred of women and he does nothing to address it or even understand it on a macro level. He has no burden other than “picking out what clothes to wear.” His words.

  • LemmeSplain

The fact that we are now forced to refer to ourselves as “born women” speaks volumes.

This crap will run its course eventually (we’ll probably end up doing the ‘third gender’ thing like parts of Europe), but for now, we all just have to bite our lips and speak the truth in private.

  • Doll Parts

There are some vapid as fuck women out there who would also say the same thing about the hardest part of their day. There are many, many women who have not struggled for much.

  • Melvin T Pelvis

Jenner isn’t doing anything for the Trans community. Jenner is doing what Jenner is doing for notoriety, attention, money and to trump his ex.
Jenner did the homework and learned the catch phrases, the buzz words, the important names and the controversies.
    But Jenner doesn’t feel it.
    It Is All A Scam.

  • Beezers

I am so sick of the Caitlyn BS! I applaud Rose McGowan for speaking the truth!

  • Mary

Jenner wasn’t serious about the “hardest part… is figuring out what to wear” statement. It was a joke. Rose McG should chill.

  • Melvin T Pelvis

Caitlyn Jenner is sooo going to paint Caitlyn Jenner’s nails to show Caitlyn Jenner’s displeasure with Rose McGowan. Then Caitlyn Jenner will paint Caitlyn Jenner’s nails again just to prove Rose McGowan wrong.

  • Whatevers_Clever

I agree with her…if you’re going to be representative of the trans-community please learn it’s also more than figuring out what to wear to a gala event.

  • Kate

Rose McGowan is a miserable harpy. I’m not a Jenner fan, but Rose needs to just shut up and quit trying to be relevant. I’m so over celebrities trying to tell me about the hardships of life.

  • Glory

She’s not right, actually. I think it’s really insensitive to try and invalidate a trans person’s femininity publicly, especially so soon after the transition- regardless of who it is. Rose McGowan cites Caitlyn as a beneficiary of male privilege yet ignores the fact Caitlyn was a beneficiary and opted to take a very public “demotion”, if you will. Also, this cis STRAIGHT white woman may have known the ravages of misogyny but she’s not well-versed in the struggles of queer people and she’s evidenced a complete arrogance with regards to them as well as a lack of empathy. Funnily enough, I don’t even really like Caitlyn but I despise pretentiousness and hypocrisy.

  • LuciaMai

Bruce Jenner is a joke, and apparently mentally ill. It seems, too, that he’s been deceiving the public lo these many years. He is not at all who we thought he was, and I don’t mean sexually. He seems to have turned into a lightweight nothing, no substance, no personality. He always wanted to be female flashy? Most females I know are working every day to take care of business and real life. The fact that they also have to dress and look decent are just extra jobs added to REAL LIFE. Bruce will never figure this out because he’s already TOO OLD. His time of fatherhood/motherhood seems to be over. He seems to have abdicated raising his daughters and he himself said he has nothing to do with those Kardashians any more. He needs to go home and shut up.

  • 😼HH😼

I could not agree with you more. Bruce Jenner was born male…and I could care less what he is trying to turn himself into, he is STILL a guy. And a guy can never be WOMAN of the year. He was around the K clan so long that he bought into it and believed the fame-ho BS that Kim, Kris and the rest try to put out there. Like everyone else in that family, they are famous for doing NOTHING. And now Bruce is too. The girls born with Kris have been indoctrinated into the attentions seeking lifestyle and I cannot see them letting go of it, I think the ONLY way any of them would go/leave would be if everyone stopped paying them attention….and unfortunately there are too many idiots that think they (Kardi klan and the Jenner clan) are the be all end all of the entertainment world.

And on another note, they are on the E Network so much, I am JUST waiting for it to be renamed the K Network. They cannot do anything on that network without pimping up the Kardi and Jenner morons.

  • goldenrule

Bruce with boobs that is all he is.

  • missmack

    Show me the receipts.

  • http://www.mrsodie.com/ Mrs Odie

I agree. I don’t think Caitlyn means to speak for all women’s experience. I think it was a joke. I think it was her way of acknowledging a big difference in her life. In no way was Ms. Jenner saying, “The hardest thing about being a woman, for all women, is getting dressed.” And I don’t like the sentiment of attacking each other over who is or isn’t a “real” woman. Better for us to listen to each other and empathize.

  • Shenanigans

I don’t think Caitlyn should’ve accepted that award. What did she do that was so extraordinary as a woman? Become a woman? While being a woman is award worthy, ask my mom, she shouldn’t be receiving one to dress up as one. she became a woman at a time when there are many other men already transitioning. Laverne Cox being a more prominent figure who has actually done more for the trans community than Caitlyn.

  • LiiL

she has right in every words of her. – ridiculous that she was chosen for woman of the year. From wearing woman clothes and hair, you will not be a real woman. Just a copy.

  • Glory

It’s not a matter of whether or not she should’ve accepted, it’s a matter of whether or not McGowan is appropriate in her response. I don’t think she is. She sounds militant and righteous which is exactly what pollutes activism- people who just thrive on outrage rather than affect change.

  • Mike

Look we all have to word, not just women.

  • http://notly.ru/ Mapгapитa Бaбoвниковa

Maybe because she started with wrong thought — Jenner don’t award herself and McGowan should talk to people from newspaper who called Jenner a WOTY.

  • http://notly.ru/ Mapгapитa Бaбoвниковa

Because kids needs it, not Dad.

  • VICTORIA

This fakery needs to stop. Rose is right and as a real woman I am offended by Bruce Jenner. A man who tries to turn into a woman, will never be a woman and a woman who turns into a man will never be a man. Until you bleed every month, take birth control pills or get a shot to prevent pregnancy then you will NEVER BE A REAL WOMAN. Their are other female issues I will not go into. As for a woman trying to be a man. They will never be able to ejaculate sperm so stop with this fakery. PEOPLE WAKE UP. This is just cosmetic. YOU CAN NOT CHANGE WHO YOU ARE WHEN YOU WERE BORN IN YOUR INSIDES. A REAL WOMAN SHOULD HAVE RECIEVED THAT AWARD.

  • Angel Dresdner

Boo fucking wah, tired of this whiny bullshit. This whole generation is all about “well my life is worse than yours” nobody cares. We all have it hard. Life is hard. Get over it.

  • jh7058622

    …said the white guy…

  • Which one is Pink?

Trans community doesn’t give a damn about women and keeps attacking women and policing how we refers to our organs. They don’t allow us to even call ourselves women. They are misogynist just like other men.

  • Which one is Pink?

Men in dresses are dictating women now how their body works and that they are not allowed to fight for their rights and against discrimination because everything has to be about transwomen who threaten with rape and death at women who refuse to sleep with them. Learn what cotton ceiling is.

  • jj

Seriously? Women live a far more “privileged” life than transgender people currently do.

  • laura

I agree. And I want to point out that Rose McGowan wasn’t transphobic at all. She’s saying: good for you, but you still have a lot to learn (not just about being a trans person, but especially about being a woman).
With all the difficulties that a trans person has to face, CJ is a privileged one, since, being that rich, she could do whatever she wanted as soon as she felt ready.
But making those stupid and superficial remarks about what being a woman is all about doesn’t make it better for women at all.
I also agree that, while it’s probably good for the trans to have such a spokeperson, it’s kind of premature to give CJ all these awards… I mean: awards for what? She’s just getting started!

  • k.

Preach. Caitlyn has a right to be who she truly is and I’m happy for her, but she’s still coming from a place of 60 years’ worth of male privilege

  • k.

All women are real women. And a person is more than their biological sex.

    m.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Transgender-woman-attacked-for-second-time-this-6636891.php
There’s plenty of hate to go around. And one could argue that trans hate is part and parcel of misogyny. Patriarchal disdain is not reserved for just those with a vagina.

  • Renee

Shes right and anyway Caitlyn is not a woman physically or mentally, she is in a halloween costume, daring to torture us with those knobbly, knees.

  • Marla

The award itself is stupid. Sports excellence awarded by ABC…please
    Glamour Magazine… Eye roll
Im sick and tired of the KArdashian/Jenner family

  • Papaya Queen

I think she is right. I think it’s great that she is beeing so open about beeing transgender and trying to get People to discuss it more but I don’t really know what she has done to have been given Award for beeing a woman. The stuff that I have heard her say is more about her Transition, she hasn’t really talked about equality, has she? There are so many more women that have fought and continue fighting for women’s right and equality.

  • Missskitttin

Very true. Caitlyn’s comments were shallow and conceited at best. I found them ridiculous. Good for Caitlyn that she’s doing what she wants but she is in no way a representation of the daily struggles of a trans girl or the struggles of a woman

  • Missskitttin

she didnt ridicule her femininity. thhere you are making the same mistake. being a woman is so much more than choosing what to wear.
