I didnt see any Egyptians. Stargate had more Egyptians — seriously an A list cast isnt going to generate anything anymore. Exodus should have been the lesson. But no here we are again. It 2015 and anglo speaking white people playing Egyptians just doesn’t sell anymore.

Same goes for Arabs. If Hollywood wants our money for these kinds of movies, whether Africa or middle eastern; start hiring Africans, Arabs and Asians.

Did you know that the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses 2 was leucoderm [white] and had red hair? Guess that’s why he liked Set so much [red hair] before he turned one to many storms and wars.

Just like they are taking the Wizard of Oz and casting it all black for the holidays. Dorothy was a white girl, damn it!

Back in these days, the majority of the race that ruled Egypt and Sumer were semitic. Phut and Canaan were Hamite and those of a darker race. Canaanites lived in ancient Palestine along with Caucasion Phoenicians (called Philistine) where the name of the place is derived. Phut and those tribes primarily lived in the Libya area…that’s not to say there was no intermixing of tribes either.
My guess they intermarried to form kingdoms and alliances.

It’s only destined for a sequel if it makes money.

He’s had nothing but duds lately.

  • Tea4Two

Maybe he’s peaked like a lot of actors lately. Now it’s all downhill.

  • Tea4Two

    Yes.

  • terrible

Exactly. Egyptians with british accents and blonde/light hair. I bet the reviews will be bad. Not impressed by the trailer.

  • terrible

Coster Waldau won’t pass as an egyptian, not even a distant tribe related to them. Egyptians are middle easterners, these actors don’t even come close to the slightest resemblance. Check the review

  • glenn

This is the second time I see this movie described as ridiculous. Pretty much all reviews are mocking it. Looks like it will be a flop. Awe…

  • adina

LOL. All the articles I read about the movie are insanely funny. Had to give some quotes that made me crack up:

“Stolen eyes! Scottish Gods! The vaguely Egyptian ‘Gods of Egypt’ has a bonkers first trailer.”
“the leading men are lily white with horrid tans and inexplicable English accents.”
“Gods of Egypt Trailer: Gerard Butler Walks Like an Egyptian”

  • haremgirl

Holy Moley!! This looks great!! I personally can’t wait to see this!! And, hey, Mr. Butler! You look so handsome…sweeter ‘n candy!!

  • Julia

Wish you people would lighten up and stop taking a mythical movie so hard. Nobody is Egyptian. From the beginning you all knew this. Why all the shock and awe now. Enjoy it for what it is….a story and not a racial statement.
Gods of Egypt is Full of Fantastical fun.

Okay, I really want to like this, as a longtime GB fan, but, erm, I haven’t decided how I feel about it yet. I was really looking forward to seeing him in a villain role. Apart from the overdone CGI (fine, it’s a ‘fantasy’ movie, that’s what they do in it), from what they’ve shown of his bits, it’s just too shouty. I honestly couldn’t understand half of what he was saying, it sounded like a cross between mumbling and shouting, if that’s possible. I do like him in a skirt though, lol. Looking forward to seeing more trailers, and Geoffrey Rush too.
Wonder if it’s a typo/mistake or they really have changed the release date to April, the date it was meant to come out in the UK and most other places…

  • ladymcbeth

Looks like we have a comedy instead of a mythological drama. Let’s hope London Has fallen will be a hit for Butler, GoE doesn’t seem to be a hit. The criteria they cast actors in movies these days doesn’t make any sense. Is it just based on connections?

  • Julia

So far it doesn’t look like it’s changed. UK April 8th and USA Feb. 26th.
    LHF March 4th.

  • ladymcbeth

Given the budget , the producers may not have fun if the revenue will fall way under the spendings

  • glenn

I have to agree. Certainly it appears like Waldau’s and Thwate’s reps, let alone Siegel had a ‘special’ relationship with the producers. the first two at least are not a fit for their roles. Gerry maybe, given how massive he is and his curly hair, but his accent is very strong and that dark paint on his face looks like mud. if nothing else we’ll have fun watching it On Demand or netflix with ear plugs close by

  • Tea4Two

Agreed. It looks like the only diff between this film and Clash of the Titans is that GOE has no Kraken. But looking at the trailer again, I can see a Kraken at 1:48! Copycat city!

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

So reading here it so far based on a 2-minute first trailer it appears the early consensus is the 3-year Butler wait won’t worth the wait? Poor Butler. Well that leaves Geostorm and The Headhunter’s Calling to pull up the slack. Or does everyone feel prematurely, like with this trailer, they won’t be any good either? I think it has an audience.

  • Truth

I hope Geostorm goes straight to video. That is going to be a massive flop for Gerry. I think LHF will break even but considering what happened in France will it even be released next year? Mega hit films are rare. Young people will go to see GOE along with the Butler faithful.

  • Julia

Lionsgate/Summit’s exposure on the production budget is only around $10 million, because Lionsgate/Summit were able to recoup most of the budget via international pre-sales and Australia tax incentives.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

That’s a given, Einstein. Yet the mislead that it hasn’t that capability isn’t exactly fair either.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

Dang, prejudging much? You know there isn’t a whole lot to select from so if you dislike something not even seeing it, or a trailer, just based on, on, what? It seems you’re going to be here for years to come griping about on his girlfriends then?

  • Truth

IMO the story line for Geostorm is cheesy. I hope LHF, GOE, and HC are big hits for him. I just stated my opinion.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

What is the story line for Geostorm?

  • ladymcbeth

The reason why short trailers are released are to build momentum and interest in the movie. They are a good indicators of how good the film will be. Professional reviews and fans comments so far on all boards and articles are negative. Maybe the producers didn’t choose the best scenes for the preview and we’ll have a total surprise at the premiere, but so far , check track record of both flops and cinematographic successes the trailers were accurate in predicting how the movie will do at the box office

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

Didn’t Gods of Egypt have a $150M budget?

  • Truth

New fan? Google Gerard Butler, Geostorm.

  • ladymcbeth

Yes.,therefore imagine the actor’s paychecks and why some connections would have plaid a role in getting a role. But the question is: will the movie make this huge amount back? I predict 20 million in earnings at the most spread over several months. What do you think?

  • Xmus Jaxon Flaxon-Waxon

You forgot, it was released. (no one can steal the KRAKEN!)

  • Julia

It’s listed as a adventure fantasy

  • ladymcbeth

True. Based on Egyptian mythology though. They should have made sure that not only the scenery and characters names are connected to the movie title.

This one sounds about as exciting as a new shower curtain.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

No, I’ve been around since 2005. I’m curious to hear “cheesy” told in your words.

  • Tea4Two

LHF may be his only hit next year. Bad press and thumbs down everywhere on the GOE trailer doesn’t bode well for boxoffice.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

Yes they’ll make it back and some. Maybe not in its opening weekend ;), not the first year, but with Amazon, DVD sales, yes. Maybe even toys and a gaming, ohm, game.

My honest first impression with the trailer is it looks good, different, and I went wow.

  • ladymcbeth

Every single review or public comment is BAD for GoE no way they’ll make the 140M back.

  • Julia

I think Egypt and gods spells out the scenery and the topic. Not sure what else you want. “The brothers Grim take on Cairo Optical?

  • Tea4Two

Agree. I doubt the film will find millons of “new fans” unless people are seriously hung up on Nicolaj. I don’t think millions of people will go to see this one based on Butler. They’ll be lucky to get half their production dollars back.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

There are more than one, thus Gods (plural).

  • ladymcbeth

Maybe half of the production money back spread over two decades.

  • http://rememberingthedesireisprivate.blogspot.com/ GFW

… and this doesn’t do it for you. Well then you have more CGI in London Has Fallen and even more in Geostorm, staring Geo Storm, so you’re in a pickle, huh? Like I said. a long 3yr wait that seems for you won’t be worth it.
